From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Process engineers design, construct and operate plants Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the application of physical science (e.g., chemistry and physics ), and life sciences (e.g., biology microbiology and biochemistry ) with mathematics , to the process of converting raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. In addition to producing useful materials, modern chemical engineering is also concerned with pioneering valuable new materials and techniques - such as nanotechnology fuel cells and biomedical engineering Chemical engineering largely involves the design, improvement and maintenance of processes involving chemical or biological transformations for large-scale manufacture . Chemical engineers ensure the processes are operated safely, sustainably and economically. Chemical engineers in this branch are usually employed under the title of process engineer . A related term with a wider definition is chemical technology. A person employed in this field is called a chemical engineer

In general, a chemical engineer is one who applies and uses principles of chemical engineering in any of various practical applications; primarily with respect to the study of the design, manufacture, and operation of plant and machinery in industrial chemical and related processes. However, modern chemical engineers are becoming more heavily involved in the development of new technologies such as fuel cells hydrogen power and nanotechnology , as well as working in fields such as polymer engineering and biomedical engineering . A Definition This information sheet is for your interest and edification. Perhaps you might want to learn more about contributions and performance results. If so, go to Home and Accomplishments. Edward T. Woodruff received the B. Sc. and M. Sc. degrees in chemical engineering in 1962. Since that time up until January 1997 we were employed, as an engineer, in the W. R. Grace Research Division. At that time Grace decided to close the Research Division because there was no longer any synergy with the remaining Grace operating divisions. We took early retirement and started Edward T. Woodruff, Inc. Throughout all our working experience, from the beginning to the present, we have made use of most all of our chemical engineering skills. Our emphasis has focused on the "chemical" aspects as well as on the "engineering" aspects. The Chemical Engineer is in that engineering discipline that emphasizes chemistry. Those who work as a chemical engineer should have a working knowledge of chemistry and chemical processes. The chemical engineer is also involved in reaction engineering. The chemical engineer engages in mass and heat transfer of chemical products. Fluid flow is a field for the chemical engineer as well.

    Journal Impact Factors
Posted on No Comments It is a fact that many researchers love to publish their research works in journals that have impact factor. The higher the impact factor, the tougher and stricter the acceptance of any research draft paper.  Some of these researchers will publish their work in Scopus indexed journals. Publishing in Scopus indexed journal is still better than having  no other reputable publications. Some of the researchers also wonder how Journal Impact Factor or sci impact factor is calculated. How journal impact factor is calculated? The impact factor for a journal is calculated based on a three-year period, and can be considered to be the average number of times published papers are cited up to two years after publication. For example, the impact factor 2010 for a journal would be calculated as follows: A the number of times articles published in 2008-9 were cited in indexed journals during 2010 B the number of articles, reviews, proceedings or notes published in 2008-2009

    What is a Chemical Engineer?
    a) An Engineer who manufactures chemicals,
    b) A Chemist who works in a factory, or
    c) A glorified Plumber
This is actually a trick question as the correct answer is d) "None of the above." (Note however that chemical engineering students bored with the relentless "pipe-flow example" during fluid dynamics class may begin to think of themselves as simply "glorified plumbers".) The first two incorrect answers make sense based upon the narrow sounding title; "chemical engineer." Surely such a person must be either a "chemist who builds things", or an "engineer who makes chemicals". Yet, the English language has never really made any sense and the name "chemical engineer" is a case in point. "Enough already... go to the bottom
All Right, So What is a Chemical Engineer?
It is true that chemical engineers are comfortable with chemistry , but they do much more with this knowledge than just make chemicals. In fact, the term "chemical engineer" is not even intended to describe the type of work a chemical engineer performs. Instead it is meant to reveal what makes the field different from the other branches of engineering All engineers employ mathematics, physics, and the engineering art to overcome technical problems in a safe and economical fashion
