Organic Chemistry Tutor
Organic chemistry is the science which presents the biggest impact on daily life both because of the variety of practical applications and the possibility of understanding phenomenons surrounding nature. Therefore, its study is absolutely necessary for understanding all the transformations the total amount of organic substances can suffer. During the study of chemistry in school difficulties may be encountered between some chemical compounds, a fact which requires a big power of abstracting, comprehending, labor and last but not least, a very organized method of learning. The content on this site is sorted according to the chemical properties of the organic compounds into eight sections accessible using the menu on the left. "Organic Chemistry Tutor"'s aim is to give a brief but comprehensible presentation of organic chemistry. Each section: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, arenes, halogenated derivatives, alcohols and phenols, includes a general presentation of the subject followed by a list of physical and chemical properties the latter being pictured through general chemical reactions and concrete examples. The quality of "Organic Chemistry Tutor" is granted, we hope, by its accessibility and simplicity: both experienced and less experienced users can use this site, given the fact that the presentation of organic chemistry notions is made in a very succinct and plain way. Also, the site can be looked upon as a very useful instrument of preparation in the sight of Baccalaureate and/or University admittance, where an organic chemistry test is expected.

General science
General science is the name of a class usually taught in United States high schools. It provides a brief overview of the scientific method, biology , physics, chemistry, and sometimes other subjects such as geology, astronomy, human physiology, or human health. Degrees of freedom (physics and chemistry) - Degrees of freedom is a quite general term used in explaining dependence on parameters, and implying the possibility of counting the number of those parameters. Neutron source - Neutron source is a general term referring to a variety devices that emit neutrons, irrespective of the mechanism used to produce the neutrons. Depending upon variables including the energy of the neutrons emitted by the source, the rate of neutrons emitted by the source, the size of the source, the cost of owning and maintaining the source, and government regulations related to the source, these devices find use in a diverse array of applications in areas of physics , engineering, medicine, nuclear weapons, petroleum exploration, biology, chemistry, nuclear power and other industries.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Please help improve this article by expanding it. Further information might be found on the talk page (August 2009) Forests contain many examples of what environmental chemistry encompasses Environmental chemistry is the scientific study of the chemical and biochemical phenomena that occur in natural places. It should not be confused with green chemistry , which seeks to reduce potential pollution at its source. It can be defined as the study of the sources, reactions, transport, effects, and fates of chemical species in the air soil , and water environments; and the effect of human activity on these. Environmental chemistry is an interdisciplinary science that includes atmospheric aquatic and soil chemistry , as well as heavily relying on analytical chemistry and being related to environmental and other areas of science. Environmental chemistry involves first understanding how the uncontaminated environment works, which chemicals in what concentrations are present naturally, and with what effects. Without this it would be impossible to accurately study the effects humans have on the environment through the release of chemicals Environmental chemists draw on a range of concepts from chemistry and various environmental sciences to assist in their study of what is happening to a chemical species in the environment . Important general concepts from chemistry include understanding chemical reactions and equations solutions units sampling , and

Erik's Chemistry is a collection of Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry notes, available for people to read through, review and learn with. New sections will be added as I finish making them. This site is maintained by Erik Epp . Erik's Chemistry is best viewed at 800x600 or greater. Erik's Chemistry News Dec 23, 2002 *GASP* An Update! - As time passes, it seems less and less likely that this site will be revived for new content. I'm now at the University of Chicago, in the Ph.D. program in chemistry. My time is now occupied mainly with my classes, teaching classes, and research; there's not much left over. In any case, the site will remain, in its present form, as long as tripod is willing to host it for free. There's one new link that I've added this update, for ChemSketch, a program for drawing chemical structures. Erik Jan 26, 2002

Medicinal chemistry
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search "Pharmaceutical chemistry" redirects here. For the subject being offered to the GCE A-level students in Singapore, see H3 Pharmaceutical Chemistry Medicinal chemistry or pharmaceutical chemistry is a discipline at the intersection of chemistry and pharmacology involved with designing synthesizing and developing pharmaceutical drugs . Medicinal chemistry involves the identification, synthesis and development of new chemical entities suitable for therapeutic use. It also includes the study of existing drugs, their biological properties, and their quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR). Pharmaceutical chemistry is focused on quality aspects of medicines and aims to assure fitness for the purpose of medicinal products. Compounds used as medicines are overwhelmingly organic compounds including small organic molecules and biopolymers . However, inorganic compounds and metal-containing compounds have been found to be useful as drugs. For example, the cis-platin series of platinum -containing complexes have found use as anti-cancer agents.

    Pharmaceutical Chemistry Major
The expanding number of pharmaceutical products now available to improve the human condition is likely to continue, with demographic trends and scientific progress combining to create a favorable long-term future. University of the Sciences' uncommon four-year BS curriculum in pharmaceutical chemistry will prepare you for careers in this rapidly-growing field by introducing you to all aspects of drug development, from initial design of a new drug to delivery of the drug to the patient.
    Meeting the Demand
Pharmaceutical chemistry focuses on the discovery of new drugs and the development of tools needed to monitor their large-scale synthesis and medical effectiveness. With a more sophisticated patient population and a large number of an aging population seeking to remain active, demand for chemists with a specialization in the areas of chemistry that are closely related to pharmaceuticals is high. As a graduate you will be able to pursue rewarding positions in large and small pharmaceutical companies and with government agencies.
Why University of the Sciences Should Be Your First Choice
    • University of the Sciences is alone among Philadelphia-area universities in offering a bachelor’s in this field
    • The West Center for Computational Chemistry and Drug Design , which allows you to take advantage of powerful Beowulf supercomputers to model the structure and activity of molecules that may be likely drug candidates, and their protein receptors.
