CHESS IN ATLANTA
CHESS ON THE INTERNET
When I first started to play online, there were only a few places to play on the Internet, and much of the chess activity was on commercial services like CompuServe and GEnie. Now I think that's reversed, and most people looking for real-time play are at one of the "Internet chess servers." These are online chess clubs with international memberships. They also host live events with grandmaster and international master coverage of events like the US Jr. Championship and the US Championship. Unlike most Webpage coverage, these real-time servers let you not just watch the events, but also discuss them with other players while they're being simulcast. Be warned though: these places are really addictive! You can play, chat, and watch Grandmaster games whenever you want to. All 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you don't have to take your slippers off! Three of the more interesting Internet sites are chess.net

The World Famous Coltness Chess and Lap Dance Club
History of our Club Coltness Chess and Lap Dance Club is a unique concept in entertainment. First established in 1923 the club struggled for many years trying to raise competitive teams with a dwindling membership. In 1998 the newly elected club president, Mike Andover, made radical changes. By combining lap dancing and chess the club was transformed overnight. In its first year of this new format membership rose from 17 to 203. During that year the teams won 6 major competitions and 2 national dance awards. Suddenly there was silver in the trophy room! We now boast 812 regular members and many members who just like to come from time to time. Our new purpose built club house is open seven days a week. With special playing areas, bars and restaurant you cannot fail to be impressed. The club is also very proud of its dancers. As well as local talent we regularly invite guest dancers from all around the country. We even have celebrity nights and have seen excellent dance routines from the likes of Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson. Each night up to six dancers entertain our players between moves. Chess has never been such fun! Lap Dancing has never required so much concentration.

Surrey Road (Gill Street) just off the M56 by the Thatch and Thistle - a map and more detailed directions are available here Players of all standards are welcome but as we usually play upstairs, and there is no lift, we are afraid the club is not very disabled friendly. We have a NO SMOKING policy. There is plenty of parking both inside the ground and just outside.
In the Winter there is often a match in progress but there are usually several members not involved in this so available to play you. We have plenty of equipment. We are the only club with open membership in Pendle and Burnley (there are two other clubs in Burnley but they have restricted membership) Since the demise of the Skipton Chess Club we may also be the most convenient club for players from that area.
Subscriptions are low - just sufficient to meet our needs - £5 this year, Nil last year!
