Child Abuse
CHILD ABUSE
Abstract
For years sociologists and authorities have been cracking down on Child Abuse all over this Great Nation. Although, the war on enforcing laws accordingly to perpetrators of abuse have successfully placed neglected or abused children into homes of caring relatives or foster homes, there is still a widespread problem with the abuse of children. This review of the topic Child Abuse will examine forms of abuse, occurrences of abuse, and prevention of this complex problem.
CHILD ABUSE
Child Abuse has many forms. Whether it is emotional, physical, sexual, or neglect all are forms of what Congress has called child maltreatment. While many may think child abuse is only limited to physical abuse, their assumption is incorrect. Sociologists have declared various other forms of abuse that can result in physical and mental damage and in some cases, death. As a Father of three, I couldn’t imagine bringing a child into this already difficult world only to have them live in fear by the ones who should love them. This review of the topic Child Abuse is intended to examine forms of abuse, where and how abuse can occur, who could inflict abuse, and prevention. Although difficult to accept, our society may never abolish child abuse and its many forms but we can educate ourselves in preventing this problem.

child abuse
Home Library Miscellaneous Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Crime of inflicting physical or emotional injury on a child. The term can denote the use of inordinate physical violence or verbal abuse; the failure to furnish proper shelter, nourishment, medical treatment, or emotional support; incest rape , or other instances of sexual molestation; and the making of child pornography . Child abuse can cause serious harm to its victims. Estimates of the numbers of children who suffer physical abuse or neglect by parents or guardians range from about 1 percent of all children to about 15 percent, and figures are far higher if emotional abuse and neglect are included. In many cases, the abuser himself suffered abuse as a child. When abuse results in death, evidence of child abuse or battered-child syndrome (e.g., broken bones and lesions, either healed or active) is often used to establish that death was not accidental. W hen an adult has sexual contact with a young person, it is called child sexual abuse. This contact may involve touching as in sexually kissing, or touching the private parts of the body, or intercourse. Sometimes the adult may not actually touch the child, but it can still be sexual abuse. An example is pornography involving children. Boys as well as girls can be victims of sexual abuse. Other names for sexual abuse may be sexual assault, sexual molestation, or incest (if it involves people in the same family, like a parent and child or brother and sister). Sexual abuse can also happen between two people of the same age when one person uses power over the other to force sex. This is often called "date rape." Back to Top
