Due to the fact that many children are raised by a single parent or divorced parents, live in a negative home environment or do not have access to adequate after-school care and supervision, after-school child care is often the best environment for a child to be placed in when their school day has finished. After-school child care includes programs that enroll children from kindergarten through junior high during the times when school is no longer in session. This includes programs operated by schools, child care centers, day care providers and recreation centers. Each facility provides a different environment, and children should be placed in the one that is most suitable to their needs. Overall, every option in the Quad-Cities provides a safe, welcoming place for children and teens to grow and develop their learning and study habits. Some of these programs can be found at, but are not limited to, the YMCA, KinderCare, Project Renewal, Friendly House, Skip-a-Long Child Development Services, St. Ambrose University, All Saints Catholic School and several high schools in the Quad-City area.

Child Care/ After School Programs
By Richard Melendez
Candidate for State Senator; District 29
This information is provided by the candidate
Infants and toddlers who get high-quality child care are more apt to graduate from high school, attend college and delay having children.High-quality, early childhood education can be an important ingredient in supporting young families. Between the hours of 3 and 6 PM is when most juvenile crimes occur. We need programs to keep our kids off the streets. Our children need to be challenged after school. After school programs are vital to working parents. Regarding Child Care, I propose tax deductions for families with day care expenses. In addition, I propose tax credits for business who provide Child Care for their employees. Child Care is vital to a well functioning society. We must ensure that quality child care is available to the hard working men and women of this state. After School programs are virtually non-existent. I work with children every day. I go into hundreds of classrooms every year to instruct kids about the dangers of alcohol, violence, drugs and gangs. We must make after school programs more prevalent.
