Legislative Updates
Lexie's Law, effective July 1, 2010 Proposed Amended Regulation During the 2010 Legislative Session, lawmakers passed Senate Substitute for HB 2356, also known as Lexie's Law. This law increases protections for Kansas children and supports families in making informed child care choices. The Child Care Licensing and Registration Program is currently reviewing requirements of the law. At this time, efforts are focused on transitioning all existing Registered homes to licensed, as the law eliminates the Registered Family Day Care Home category effective June 30, 2011. The website contains several links to more information about Lexie's Law, including summary points and full text of the bill, the Department's transition plan, and Frequently Asked Questions. The Department and local health departments are working closely with child care providers across the state toward a smooth transition.
