Internet Child Safety The Internet’s original goal was to share files and provide research for users, enabling them to share global information through a channel of wires, circuits, networks, and other devices. As moms we never thought we would have to worry about internet child safety. The internet proved useful in various ways by providing doctors, teachers, as well as other helpful tools that serviced people faster than going out in the field to find the data elsewhere. In fact, lives have been saved because of the wonderful creation of the World Wide Web. (WWW) Today most of all work is conducted is on the Internet, including homework. Users’ gain access to information on nearly any subject imaginable, by using what is known as a Search Engine. Similar to a dictionary, the user looks up a word and accesses a definition of what he or she is searching for; likewise, when the user types in a keyword, a website appears with words that are related to the phrase the user is seeking. The Internet offers us e-mail access, Instant Messaging, Chat Room, Webcam capabilities and more. The Internet however is a dangerous environment, since around the globe anyone can employ the Internet for any purpose they, choose. Books or magazines supply footnotes, which are placed at the bottom of the pages for quick reference. Similar, footnotes are placed in documents, at the bottom, and throughout the websites for reference to provide links for extended information. In some of these footnotes are links to adult content, which could put your child at risk. | |
