From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search The Buell Children's Museum in Pueblo, Colorado was ranked #2 children's museum in the United States by Child Magazine Children's museums are institutions that provide exhibits and programs to stimulate informal learning experiences for children . In contrast with traditional museums that typically have a hands-off policy regarding exhibits, children's museums feature interactive exhibits that are designed to be manipulated by children. The theory behind such exhibits is that activity can be as educational as instruction, especially in early childhood. Most children's museums are nonprofit organizations, and many are run by volunteers or by very small professional staffs. International professional organizations of children's museums include the Association of Children's Museums (ACM), which was formed in 1962 as the American Association of Youth Museums (AAYM) and in 2007 counted 341 member institutions in 23 countries, and The Hands On! Europe Association of Children's Museum (HO!E), established in 1994, with member institutions in 34 countries as of 2007.

For starters, if the museum is Imagine Nation in Bristol, Connecticut, you shouldn't be surprised. The Family Center of Bristol opened this museum for children and families in 2004, and during our first visit in April of 2005, my little one and I packed a lot of hands-on fun into two hours.
It was a quiet Thursday morning at Imagine Nation when we arrived at 10 a.m. On the museum's first floor, we banged out a tune on a giant Glockenspiel, made interesting designs with the Sand Pendulum, watched balls spiral down into the Gravity Well and had more fun than I ever realized you could have with a hair dryer as we tried to keep ping pong balls aloft long enough to direct them into cones and tubes.
