Marsha Skrypuch Gets Pinned!
At the Toronto meeting on November 10, Gillian Chan awarded a CANSCAIP service pin to Marsha for her creation of and longstanding work on the CANSCAIP listserve. This silver pin is shaped in CANSCAIP's logo of an author, illustrator and performer. It's the highest token of esteem awarded to CANSCAIP volunteers. What can we say but, "Thank you, Marsha!"
Well, about a quarter of CANSCAIP's members have posted their profile information to this new version of the website. If you're a member who hasn't—and you're avoiding it because the instructions just aren't detailed enough—help is at hand! Member Erin Thomas has created a PDF guide that will take you through the process step-by-step. All you have to do is log in and go the Website FAQ section.

Letter from a participant: Hi Magnus,
I attended the Big Sur Children's Writing Workshop in December 2006. One of the manuscripts I worked on there was a picture book at that time entitled, Go Dil Lok and the Three Chans which I had just submitted to Tricycle Press. Three and a half years, three editors, multiple transformations, and a million edits later, I have just been offered a publishing contract for this picture book with Tricycle Press. It is now titled Goldy Luck and the Three Chans and is scheduled to be published in fall 2012.
Thank you all for a wonderful workshop experience. I appreciated the encouragement, support, and feedback I received which have helped shaped this manuscript. I hope to return to Big Sur soon when I am further along on the Young Adult Novel I'm currently writing.
Best, Natasha Yim

KAY E. VANDERGRIFT Young people are creators as well as consumers of literary works. One of the ways they make sense of and gain control over their often chaotic lives is to give ideas and events shape through the power of language. Parents, teachers, and other adults need to encourage this kind of composition and help children learn to write well. When they do write well, young authors may seek means to publish their work. There are now many opportunities to do so.
