In Chile there are hardly any theaters with stable ensembles, but instead many creative independent theater groups. Presently, the most interesting performances can be seen at the new Matucana 100 Cultural Factory or in the private theaters San Ginés and Galpón 7 , both in the Bellavista district. Chile Culture
Our daughter Katie Harbaugh talks about the rich Chile culture she enjoyed while growing up and living in Chile. Life in Chile is unique, as is the Chilean culture. Harbaugh trades life in Chilean capital for rural life in South Mississippi
By: DeAnna Edwards, Staff Writer, Jones County Junior College Paper, Radionian Most people say that Chile is an unforgettable country of great beauty, stunning nature and exciting experiences.
Katherine (Katie) Harbaugh , a pre-nursing student at Jones, got to experience this unique environment, Chile culture, first-hand while living in Chile for nearly 14 years. Harbaugh was born in Athens, OH. Her parents later felt a call to be missionaries, so they gladly accepted and moved to Texas to attend language school and learn Spanish. When Harbaugh was six, she and her family...moved to Chile. The country seemed to welcome the family with open arms. "The people are extremely nice, and we were immediately immersed in the Chilean culture," said Harbaugh.

Posted in Chile culture Chile military Fuck you Pinochet ... mierda by tomasdinges on January 24, 2010 An investigation by the newly founded Chilean investigative journalism and government transparency organization ArchivosChile has discovered documents showing that ret. Gen. Augusto Pinochet was authorized to receive loans of $292 million from the Chilean state from 1977 to 1981. Published on the ArchivosChile website and the Chilean newspaper La Nacion , the article lends credence to suspicions raised years ago upon the discovery of secret U.S. bank accounts that Gen. Pinochet benefited financially from his position as dictator of Chile from 1973 to 1989. John Dinges , an American journalist and author of two investigative books on Chile, is leading the initiative to explore Law 20.285, known as the Public Information Access Law or Transparency Law, which is similar to the Freedom of Information Act in the United States. ArchivosChile is based upon the model set by the National Security Archives, which uses FOIA laws extensively to obtain and archive historical documents produced by the US Government. Dinges is the father of the author of this blog.

Is it a big city or a small town? Are there lots of people there? What about the school you attend? Do you have lots of friends there? Do you think you live in a nice country, with lots of opportunities to do what you want with your life? What are some problems with where you live? Now think about how you would describe where you live to someone else. Think about your talents. Could you write a song that would describe your home? Could you paint a picture? Maybe you could photograph where you live. There are lots of ways to talk about your home, depending on your talents. Not so long ago, there was a talented writer in Chile named Pablo Neruda. He loved to write about his home.

Culture of Chile Chile is a country in South America occupying a long and narrow strip between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The pacific forms the country's entire western border, with Peru to the north, Bolivia in the north east and Drake passage to the south. The population of Chile is made up of Mestizos, persons of mixed Spanish and Native American ancestry who make up for 93 percent of the current population. Only 3 percent consists of pure Native American, mainly Araucarians who are concentrated in the southern region; and the other 2 percent of the population is made up of unmixed European race. Chilean culture
Chile was ruled by Spain for several centuries and the culture of Chile is largely Spanish. The culture in Chile can be divided into 2 categories: the cosmopolitan culture of the affluent urban population, and the popular culture of the peasants, which is predominantly Spanish but contains traces of Araucanian heritage. The latter influences are strongest in Chilean music and dance. Chile has a long literary tradition and has produced two Nobel Prize winners in literature, Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda, both poets. Soldier-poet Alonso de Ercilla y Zúñiga wrote what is considered the greatest Spanish American epic poem, La Araucana, about the Spanish struggle against the Araucanians.

People of Chile The population of Chile is made up of Mestizos, persons of mixed Spanish and Native American ancestry, who make up for 93 percent of the current population. Only 3 percent consists of pure Native American, mainly Araucanians who are concentrated in the southern region; and the other 2 percent of the population is made up of unmixed European race. Most of the population lives in urban centers, and more than one-third of the people live in the capital city of Santiago. Communities both in the south and in the northern desert are generally isolated and separated by vast, virtually unpopulated stretches. Arts, Culture and Music of Chile The country of Chile has two lively and contrasting cultures: the cosmopolitan culture of the affluent urban population, and the popular culture of the peasants, which is mainly Spanish but contains traces of Araucanian heritage. The culture of peasants is heavily reflected in their music and dance. The country also has a flourishing literary tradition and has produced two Nobel Prize winners in literature, Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda, both poets.
Flag of Chile The flag of Chile has two equal horizontal bands of white, at the top and red. There is a blue square, the same height as the white band at the hoist-side end of the white band. The square bears a white five-pointed star in the center representing a guide to progress and honor. The blue symbolizes the sky, white is for the snow-covered Andes, and red stands for the blood spilled to achieve independence. This design was influenced by the US flag.

Western travelers are less noticeable than in neighboring Peru and Bolivia because of Chile's European heritage. The European education of many Chilean intellectuals influenced the country's art, music and architecture. As a result art galleries, museums and a thriving theater scene are a large part of Chilean culture. Nobel Prize-winning poets Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda were products of Chile and, until the military coup of 1973, its cinema was among the most experimental in Latin America. The country's oppressed used folk music as an important vent, and was regularly performed overseas by exiles during Pinochet's reign. Religion is big in Chile and over 90% of the inhabitants are Roman Catholic, but evangelical Protestantism is becoming popular. Impressive and omnipresent best represents the country's Catholic architecture, from high-flying colonial churches to roadside shrines, some of which are amazing manifestations of folk art. Chile's official language is spanish, though many other native languages are still spoken. In the south there are perhaps half a million speakers of Mapuche and in the north, there are more than 20,000 speakers of Aymara.
