    Where do chimps sleep?
    Sorry, I don't know the answer to that question. Adding a fact will enable us to answer this question, along with many others. For example, adding a person's birth date will not only let us know when their birthday is, but also let us answer questions about how old they are, and compare their age with other people. Adding a textual answer will let us answer this question, along with other very similar questions. Textual answers are useful for providing descriptions, and detailed answers to specific questions. However they can't be used to answer such a variety of questions as facts can. Thank you for adding this answer!

    Curriculum Vitae
    I completed my PhD in the Neuroscience and Animal Behavior program in the Department of Psychology at Emory University in August 2007. I am currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology at Beloit College, in Beloit, Wisconsin. While a graduate student with Living Links, my research focused on social learning and culture in two species of non-human primates, capuchin monkeys and chimpanzees. In particular, I worked on projects which were designed to investigate when these non-human primates use social learning, and the types of behaviors that can be learned socially by these two gregarious and highly intelligent species. My research involved testing predictions surrounding: a) the role of reward in social learning among capuchin monkeys; b) the influences of reward probability on the use of individual and social learning by chimpanzees; c) the effects of social relationships on social learning and the transmission of social traditions among non-human primates;

    Calorie Restriction: A Fountain of Youth, But Few Takers Auburn, July 9, 2002 - Scientists think they’ve discovered the fountain of youth, though they doubt many Americans will be willing to drink from it. Since the 1930s, scientists have been experimenting with animals to determine the link between caloric reduction and longer life spans. What they’ve learned has astonished them. Scientists have prolonged life by as much as 50 percent in these animals merely by reducing their daily caloric intake to about two-thirds of what is considered normal. "They’ve experimented with insects, fish, some invertebrates and dogs, and they keep coming up with the same results," says Dr. Robert Keith, an Alabama Cooperative Extension System nutritionist and Auburn University professor of nutrition. "When you keep seeing the same thing over and over again among a variety of animals, you know there has to be some truth to all of this." Scientists have now moved the studies a further up the scale to primates such as rhesus monkeys and chimpanzees. Primates live much longer than other animals, so it will be several years before these experiments are completed. Still, researchers are intrigued with what they’ve learned so far.

    Hand-clasp Grooming
    Hand-clasp grooming is a unique grooming posture in which two individuals sit facing one another, simultaneously raise one arm overhead, and support the other by holding hands or wrists to create an "A-frame" posture. Hand-clasp grooming is common in some, but not all wild chimpanzee communities, and since 1991, has been observed in one of the Yerkes groups. Researchers are currenty examining over 15 years of continuous data in order to provide a more detailed description of handclasp grooming at Yerkes, determine if social affiliations have affected its spread, and to compare specific aspects of posture among the Yerkes chimpanzees to reports from wild populations.

    Is it just me or are primates getting smarter and smarter. I remember watching the Planet of the Apes movies and thinking how silly, primates will never get smarter. Now it seems chimpanzees are making spears and using them to hunt bush babies in Africa. When you think about this behavior you think early man and definitely not chimpanzees. Wildlife Rescue Keithville Rescue Groups Chimpanzees ... Louisiana Chimp Haven (Keithville, Louisiana 71047) provides sanctuary for the increasing number of chimpanzees no longer active in biomedical research, or unwanted as entertainers or pets. Chimpanzees are genetically very similar to humans, as evidenced not only by their comparable anatomy and physiology, but also by their behavior, emotional needs, and cognitive abilities. They have served as medical research models for decades, and, as a result, humans have received the benefits of lifesaving vaccines and medical therapies. With emerging technologies and changing research goals, hundreds of chimpanzees are no longer needed for research. Responding to the urgent need for long-term chimpanzee care, a group of primatologists and interested professionals began planning the best possible housing alternative for our closest living animal relatives. There is mounting evidence that fish are more intelligent than people give them credit for. In fact, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals PETA ) has a whole web site on fish intelligence called fishing-hurts.com According to Dr. Calum Brown of Edinburgh University, "Fish are cunning, manipulative, cultured, socially intelligent creatures who do not deserve their reputation as being dim-witted." In an NPR radio interview on fish intelligence, Dr. Jens Krause from the University of Leeds says that fish can learn from each other and can even use tools. In fact, recent research has shown that in some ways fish are as smart as dogs The intelligence fish possess makes it possible to train them in the same way other animals are trained, using a technique called shaping The results can be quite amazing, as you can see from the photo gallery of Fish School graduates and testimonials of fish owners. And don't forget to visit the Fish School Forum , to discuss, share tips and hear recent news about the fascinating hobby of pet fish training.

    Uganda is not well known as a safari destination often losing out to its famous neighbours Kenya and Tanzania. Yet equatorial Uganda has an incredible biodiversity and much to offer the wildlife traveller. Gorillas and Chimpanzees
    Primates are a specialty and one of the undoubted highlights of any visit is tracking habituated mountain gorillas in Bwindi or Mgahinga National Parks. Spending time with these wonderful charismatic animals is one of the great wildlife experiences. Tracking chimpanzees in Kibale National Park and at the Chamburu Gorge is equally as thrilling, the excited hoots of these boisterous drama queens herald your arrival. At Kibale there is also a possibility of seeing forest elephants. If your time is limited we recommend our 4 day Gorilla Safari trip Still there is so much more to Uganda than gorillas and chimps. For a more traditional safari experience include a visit to Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls and Lake Mburo National Parks. Here you can see the savanna fauna such as lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and giraffe all free of the mass tourism and minivan circuits of some other African countries. A launch trip on the Kazinga Channel is a must for any visitor to Queen Elizabeth National Park as animals come to the lake side to drink. Hippos start to leave the water to graze on the lake shore while Nile crocodiles bask on the banks but quickly slide into the water when approached.
