The International Day of Prayer, 11/14/2010: Joining the Souls of the Slain
Because the suffering is overwhelming, the prayer needs are overwhelming. A single Sunday set aside for those prayers is only a way of reminding us to cry out daily for rescue, redemption, and justice for the persecuted Church—and for her persecutors. Are We Willing to Sacrifice? Thoughts on Veterans Day This Veterans Day, we need to remember the sacrifices made by members of our Armed forces. But let’s also look in the mirror. Are we willing to make sacrifices? When the Gospel is Worth Dying For: International Day of Prayer We need to be the answer to the prayers for the persecuted. A powerful opportunity to do just that is coming November 14. Millions worldwide will unite that Sunday for the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.

(November 2010) The relationship of Christianity and violence is the subject of controversy because some people assert that Christianity advocates peace, love and compassion while others view it as a violent religion. Peace, compassion and forgiveness of wrongs done by others are key elements of Christian teaching. However, Christians have struggled since the days of the Church fathers with the question of when the use of force is justified. Such debates have led to concepts such as

Find more information on Christianity @ The Adherents Religion Website. Q: Christianity!?
Who here wouldn't mind giving me a brief overview of the beginning of Christianity, or at least a few links to some good sites? Will be very appreciated....
A: Q: What was the difference between christianity and other religions?
How did christianity gain so many followers? We all know what happened after the roman empire embraced it as the official religion, but my question concerns what happened before that. Im certain that it wasn't the only religion, so im curious about how did christianity stand out among all the other religions.
A: Q: What characteristics of Christianity make it so appealing as an ideology to dominate others?
Christianity was tailored to be the new state religion of the Roman Empire, and it has continued to be the state religion of the empires of conquest and domination since its adoption by Rome. Let's figure out why that is.
A: Convenience. Interpreting the bible to support ideas like Manifest Destiny and saying you are god's warriors can justify almost anything. Couple that with a still expanding empire an you have the spread of christianity.

Jump to: navigation search Christianity is the largest religion in the world with approximately 2.14 billion adherents. A Christian is someone who follows the precepts of Jesus Christ . The foundation and principles of Christianity come from the New Testament of the Bible , along with its beginning history. During the life of Jesus , his disciples were exclusively Jews . After Christ's death, Gentiles or non-Jews were brought into service, which now dominate Christianity. His disciples were known among themselves simply as "brethren", "the faithful", "elect", "saints", or "believers." The name "Christians" was first given by the Greeks or Romans , probably in reproach, to the followers of Jesus ("little Christs"). The name "Christ" is derived from the Greek noun Christōs which means "anointed one," which is itself a translation of the Hebrew word Māshīakh Messiah "). The name "Christian" appears only three times in the New Testament. In Acts 11:26 it says that " the disciples were first called Christians at Antioch ". Other mentions can be found in

Christianity is based upon the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life is written about in the New Testament. Jesus, a Jew, was born in about 7 B.C. and assumed his public life, probably sometime after he turned 30, in Galilee. The Gospels tell of many extraordinary deeds that accompanied his ministry. He proclaimed the kingdom of God and referred to himself as the Son of Man. Jesus set forth the religious and ethical demands for participation in the kingdom of God as a change of heart and repentance for sins, love of God and neighbor, and concern for justice. Circa A.D. 30 he was executed on a cross in Jerusalem, a brutal form of punishment for those considered a political threat to the Roman Empire. After his death his followers came to believe in him as the Christ, the Messiah. The Gospels report his resurrection, and the risen Jesus was witnessed by many of his followers. The apostle Paul helped spread the new faith in his missionary travels. Historically, Christianity arose out of Judaism and claims that Jesus fulfilled many of the promises of the Hebrew Scripture (referred to by Christians as the Old Testament).

The second largest religious minority in India is that of the Christians. The Indian Christians consist of three main sects viz. the Syrian Christians, Roman Catholics and Protestants. Christianity was, we are told, first brought into India only a few decades after the passing away of Lord Christ. But it was the apostle St. Thomas who is popularly believed to have introduced Christianity into India around the 1st century of our era. Thus Christianity seems to have come into India far before it had reached many European countries like Britain and Germany. A stained glass representation

For many Unitarian Universalists, Christianity provides insight and guidance. One of the shared sources of our faith is "Jewish and Christian teachings which call us to respond to God's love by loving our neighbors as ourselves." As one Unitarian Universalist Bruce Southworth writes, "Jesus' message remains strong in our efforts to create a beloved community here on earth, impelling us to witness to the injustices of this time." And Rev. Anita Farber-Robertson has said, "Jesus [gives us] the strength to fight, the courage to love, and hearts that do not give up on anyone." The Bible and its many interpretations have largely shaped our Unitarian Universalist history . Today, the Bible is used in most Unitarian Universalist congregations as one of many sources of inspiration and reflection. To quote Unitarian Universalist (UU) Laura Spencer, "I claim the Bible as one more chapter, among several religious texts, in the Unitarian Universalist guide to living." More information about Christianity from a Unitarian Universalist perspective is available in the pamphlets " The Faith of a UU Christian,
