Greek Families Apart from Zeus sleeping with women in the royal houses throughout Greece and in every different generations, so that every descendants were related to him, there is another common ancestry to most of these great families. If we discounted Zeus and his brother Poseidon, ultimately all royal lines linked back to Oceanus , the eldest of the Titans, and of course, to Tethys , Oceanus' sister and wife. Some of lines also go back to Iapetus , Oceanus's brother. Iapetus was the father of Atlas Prometheus and Epimethus. From Prometheus and Atlas, their descendants had also established great houses, however the consort of Iapetus was either Clymene or Asia, both of them were daughters of Oceanus. Even Atlas' consort, Pleione, mother of the Pleiades, was a daughter of Oceanus. The great city was not only linked to Oceanus through Pleione's daughter Electra, but also through Oceanus' son Scamander. What about the great houses of Argos, Thebes and Cretes? Their common ancestor was the river-god Inachus, who happened to be the son of Oceanus and Tethys. And if we look at the ancestor of the heroes Peleus and Achilles was Asopus - another son of Oceanus.

The Poseidon Adventures
Classical Mythology
After the ships had left the shore, Odysseus shouted taunts at the giant, proudly revealing his true name. Polyphemus now recalled the prophecy of Telemus. Though he could not punish his tormenters himself, the Cyclops prayed to his father Poseidon for vengeance. Poseidon, who hated Odysseus from that day forward, would plague Odysseus again and again, transforming his return to Ithaca into a long, lonely, and costly journey.
Good Host, Bad Host
Fair winds carried the ships to Aeolia, a mythical floating island, where King Aeolus, keeper of the winds, welcomed them kindly, offering his weary guests a month of feasts and entertainment. Aeolus tied up all but the gentle west wind in an ox-hide bag as a gift to Odysseus. The free wind carried them within sight of Ithaca in just 10 days. The More Things Change ...

Song of the Timeless Myths
from the Book of Heroes
The Classical Mythology has epics and tales of the ancient Greek and Roman myths and literatures. The Greek and Roman myths show great variety and originality that has not being matched. Greek mythology is heavily intertwined with Greek classical literature. The works contained the oldest myths in European history. It had withstood the test of time, surviving largely through the works of classical writers between the time of Greek colonisation of the Mediterranean (8th century BC) and the decline of the Roman Empire (AD 3rd century). While the Roman myth and legend was not written until the 1st BC to the decline of Roman Empire. Ovid and Vergil were two of the Roman greatest authors on this subject. They and other Roman writers made classical myths so popular that the medieval Europe and modern society had the tendency to use the more popular Roman names for the Greek gods and heroes, than the Greek names. During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, interests in Greek and Roman myths was renewed in arts and literatures. Even today, their popularity is still in evident.

Classical Mythology page: The Absence of Lesbianism in Greco-Roman Myth Nevertheless, the gay heritage from this great body of Western mythology is rich, and much richer, sad to say, than the lesbian heritage. Lesbianism hardly exists in the myths. No goddess ever has sexual relations with another goddess, or with a nymph, or with a girl. Nor, at the human level, do women fall in love with women. Not even the Amazons, through living in an exclusively female society and warriors in a female army, did so. They had sexual unions once a year with men of neighboring tribes for the purpose of breeding daughters (sons they destroyed), but they did not become lovers to one another. Sponsor Message.
