What we do
The Directorate-General for Climate Action ("DG CLIMA") was established in February 2010, climate change being previously included in the remit of DG Environment of the European Commission. It leads international negotiations on climate, helps the EU to deal with the consequences of climate change and to meet its targets for 2020, as well as develops and implements the EU emissions trading system.
Combating climate change within and outside the EU
Given the necessity to keep global average temperature increase below 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels, DG CLIMA develops and implements cost effective international and domestic climate change policies and strategies in order for the EU to meet its targets for 2020 and beyond, especially with regard to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. Its policies also aim at protecting the ozone layer and at ensuring that the climate dimension is appropriately present in all Community policies and that adaptation measures will reduce the European Union's vulnerability to the impacts of climate change.

Climate change denial
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This is the latest accepted revision accepted on 4 November 2010 Jump to: navigation search Climate change denial is a term used to describe organized attempts to illegitimately downplay the extent of global warming , its significance, or its connection to human behavior, especially for financial or other sectional interests. Climate change denial has been associated with the energy lobby , industry advocates and free market think tanks , often in the United States. Some commentators describe climate change denial as a particular form of denialism The term is rarely used by those to whom it is applied. citation needed The scientific opinion on climate change is that global warming is occurring and is mainly due to human activity. However, political economic , and public debate continues regarding the reality and extent of global warming and what actions to take in response. Numerous authors, including several scholars, have asserted that some conservative think tanks, corporations and business groups have engaged in deliberate denial of the science of climate change since the 1990s. On the other hand, some commentators have criticized the phrase as an attempt to delegitimize

Climate Change; a summary of some present knowledge and theories
(by Evert Wesker)
Introduction
In the last decades some notable weather events have occurred. A small but impressive sample of weather incidents:
  • In the storm which struck England on 15-16 October 1987 a gust of 220 km/h was measured.
  • On 15 December 1986 and 10 January 1993 all time pressure lows on the North Atlantic of
916 (912?) mbar were recorded in the vicinity of Iceland.
  • The summers of 1994 and 1995 broke quite some heat records. A striking example among them:
  • The damage caused by the hurricane "Andrew" in 1992 was $30 billion. It was a category IV
    hurricane
on the Saffir Simpson scale at the moment of landfall.
  • The Typhoon Faxai in December 2001, at the very end of the tropical storm season in the
West Pacific, had at its moment of maximum intensity sustained winds along its eye wall of

http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/climate.htm
World Climate Zones Have you ever wondered why one area of the world is a desert, another a grassland, and another a rainforest? Why are there different forests and deserts, and why are there different types of life in each area? The answer is climate. Climate is the characteristic condition of the atmosphere near the earth's surface at a certain place on earth. It is the long-term weather of that area (at least 30 years). This includes the region's general pattern of weather conditions, seasons and weather extremes like hurricanes, droughts, or rainy periods. Two of the most important factors determining an area's climate are air temperature and precipitation. World biomes are controlled by climate. The climate of a region will determine what plants will grow there, and what animals will inhabit it. All three components, climate, plants and animals are interwoven to create the fabric of a biome. Some facts about climate In all other cases, the rays arrive at an angle to the surface and are less intense. The closer a place is to the poles, the smaller the angle and therefore the less intense the radiation.

Climate
Overview
Climate change has been a priority for WWF for over 20 years as climate disruption poses a fundamental threat to the vulnerable places, species and people WWF seeks to protect.  To adequately slow climate change we urgently must reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. We are leveraging the power of WWF’s network of organizations around the world to build support for the new post-2012 global climate agreement at from Copenhagen that is fair, effective and science-based.

Explains climate change and the climate system, climate and weather, the greenhouse effect, can we change the climate, what s the big deal, and how to make a difference.
http://epa.gov/climatechange/kids/gw.html
Earth has warmed by about 1 over the past 100 years. But why? And how? Well, scientists are not exactly sure. The Earth could be getting warmer on its own, but many of the world's leading climate scientists think that things people do are helping to make the Earth warmer. Greenhouse Effect, Climate Change,
and Global Warming The Greenhouse Effect: Scientists are sure about the greenhouse effect . They know that greenhouse gases make the Earth warmer by trapping energy in the atmosphere Climate Change: Climate is the long-term average of a region's weather Global Warming: Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earth's temperature, which in turn causes changes in climate. A warmer Earth may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans. When scientists talk about the issue of climate change, their concern is about global warming caused by human activities. next Climate Change Home Privacy and Security Notice Glossary ... EPA Home
