All About Climate
Climate refers to the overall weather of a location over a long period of time. Climate and climate change is determined by many things including distance from the equator, closeness to an ocean or major body of water, and geographical conditions such as mountains, plains and forests. There are 12 distinct types of climates on our planet, ranging from tropical to polar. Climate change has become a frequently discussed issue over the past years. Climate change can be caused by internal and external forces like the Earths orbit, solar radiation and greenhouse gas concentrations. The ice age is an example of climate change. Recently, the focus of our concern is the effect humanity is having on the climate. Researchers are debating as to whether the cause of our current climate change is because of humans or radiative forcing. Resources are also being used to find methods of climate control. The only ways we hope to impact our climate is to refrain from pollution, recycle and stop using the natural resources at the rate we are. Stay up to date on climate news, significant discoveries, and changes in global climate. Learn about the complexity behind our planets climates with the articles and reference below.

Now compare this to the CA post: Note, as reader Erasmus de F observed, the tremendous growth pulse in the surviving part of the trunk immediately following the glacier scar. If you drilled a core in the center of the surviving “strip” bark in the scarred spruce, you would get a huge growth pulse in the late 19th century; if you drilled a core at the edge of the surviving strip bark, you would get correlated but narrow widths. This is exactly the situation that we hypothesized at Almagre strip bark (our Tree 31 discussed here.) Here’s a ring width plot from the prior post. The glacier-scarred tree would yield a graphic like this:

Climate Change
From Wikibooks, the open-content textbooks collection Jump to: navigation search This Wikibook deals with climate change (also referred to as "global warming"). If you care to share your knowledge of this topic, please contribute. Although this book is still in a very preliminary state, we seem to be moving toward a cohesive structure. The book is really two parts: first, a primer on the science of climate change, and second, a study of societal implications of climate change. The first part deals with much more concrete, physically based principles. As such, it can be developed more easily. The second part is potentially more controversial, but not necessarily so; for the early stages of development, the second part should probably be limited to generalities and external links.

AGU Position Statement
Human Impacts on Climate
Adopted by Council December 2003
Revised and Reaffirmed December 2007 must be reduced by more than 50 percent within this century. With such projections, there are many sources of scientific uncertainty, but none are known that could make the impact of climate change inconsequential. Given the uncertainty in climate projections, there can be surprises that may cause more dramatic disruptions than anticipated from the most probable model projections. With climate change, as with ozone depletion, the human footprint on Earth is apparent. The cause of disruptive climate change, unlike ozone depletion, is tied to energy use and runs through modern society. Solutions will necessarily involve all aspects of society. Mitigation strategies and adaptation responses will call for collaborations across science, technology, industry, and government. Members of the AGU, as part of the scientific community, collectively have special responsibilities: to pursue research needed to understand it; to educate the public on the causes, risks, and hazards; and to communicate clearly and objectively with those who can implement policies to shape future climate.

Climate change and human health
Climate change is a significant and emerging threat to public health, and changes the way we must look at protecting vulnerable populations. WHO has an active and long-standing programme on protecting health from climate change, guided by a World Health Assembly resolution. Through its country, regional and headquarters offices, WHO provides evidence and supports capacity building and implementation projects to strengthen the health system response to climate change, and to ensure that health is appropriately considered in decisions made by other sectors, such as energy and transport. The Organization also provides the health-sector voice within the overall UN response to this global challenge. What WHO is doing

Weather
is all around us. Weather may be one of the first things you notice after you wake up. Chances are, if it is cold and snowing, you'll wear a jacket when you go outside. If it's hot and sunny, you may wear shorts.
Sounds pretty simple, right?
But what about climate
How is it different from weather?
And what is weather, exactly? Weather
Weather describes whatever is happening outdoors in a given place at a given time. Weather is what happens from minute to minute. The weather can change a lot within a very short time. For example, it may rain for an hour and then become sunny and clear. Weather is what we hear about on the television news every night. Weather includes daily changes in precipitation barometric pressure , temperature, and wind conditions in a given location. What is your weather like today?
Climate
Climate describes the total of all weather occurring over a period of years in a given place. This includes average weather conditions, regular weather sequences (like winter, spring, summer, and fall), and special weather events (like tornadoes and floods). Climate tells us what it's usually like in the place where you live. San Diego is known as having a mild climate, New Orleans a humid climate, Buffalo a snowy climate, and Seattle a rainy climate. How would you describe the climate where you live?
