(Journal Citation Reports, Thomson Reuters) Climate Policy was greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Stephen Schneider, who died of a heart attack on July 19. Stephen was one of the best known and most respected climate scientists in the world. Devoted to working at the science-policy interface and committed to the responsibility of communicating climate science, he was a valued founding member of our Editorial Board - a particularly generous role, since he had spent previous decades building up his own superb journal Climatic Change . I still recall Stephen's response at the first Climate Policy Editorial Board meeting: going round the table after I asked each member for their most succinct advice, he just said: "Quality, Quality and Quality" - a goal to which we have aspired ever since. Our condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues around the world; he will be sorely missed.

Tackle Climate Change
EU Representative Warns of Climate Change
European Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard warned of the impending effects of climate change and lauded the benefits of clean energy at a panel on the European perspective on international climate policy yesterday.
"The past few months have brought tragic and shocking reminders of the messy human, economic, and environmental costs the world faces from climate change," said Hedergaard, the Danish government official responsible for the Copenhagen Climate Summit.
Despite these sobering predictions, Hedergaard said the economic changes needed to combat climate change could prove beneficial for countries willing to invest in clean energy.
She also cited a study conducted by University of California, Berkeley Professor Daniel M. Kammen that found that every dollar invested in renewable sources of energy generates three to five times more jobs than a dollar invested in fossil fuel energies.
In light of these potential incentives for investing in clean energies, Hedergaard expressed frustration with the U.S.' inability to pass legislation on the matter.
Stavins said that the biggest hurdle currently preventing the passage of climate change legislation is a lack of political agreement.

Air Pollution, Aerosols and Clouds in the Climate System
Welcome to the world of atmospheric aerosols, clouds and climate science. Atmospheric aerosols (or PM) are complex mixture of solid and liquid particles that vary in size and composition, and remain suspended in the air. They affect human health and play an important role in weather and climate change processes. Due to high temporal and spatial variability, their characterization into climate models is highly uncertain. This blog is our science diary about latest research in this field.
