Director, Bunny Gibson, a native Ohioan, Bangor area and shares her Midwest clogging style with the local dancers. The dancers are from various walks of life with one thing in common - their love for clogging. Step In Time Cloggers rekindles the Scots-Irish and European way of dancing to the past, present and future generations in Maine. Also called "Hillbilly Tapdancing," clogging is an authentic and distinctive form of American folk dance. Links Home Welcome to Tanglefoot Tanglefoot were formed in 1995 when two dancing friends, having seen American Folk Clogging and who had attended various dance workshops, decided to form a local team. To this day they are still one of the few Appalachian teams in the south east of England and the only team in Kent. The Tanglefoot team is mixed and draws its dancers and musicians from the whole of Kent. We of course enjoy demonstrating our dancing talents and we are available to perform at various functions and events, which helps to subsidise our expenses. WHAT IS CLOGGING? By Brian Elmer Clog dancing is a type of dancing of which the three main characteristics are: 1. boisterous, fast footwork with steel plates or taps on the shoes 2. a fairly rigid torso 3. an up and down knee motion that differs from most other dance forms Although clogging is a dance form for individuals, it is often done as precision dancing by a group of cloggers. The dancers do the same steps at the same time as cued by a leader using a microphone and recorded music on a sound system. Clogging is often a family affair where all ages participate. It is not unusual for three generations of a family to be clogging together. Not only do they keep fit but they have a wonderful time. The clog dance is continually in a state of change and improvisation such that today it is performed not only to country and bluegrass music but also to pop, jazz and rap. Clogging, an enjoyable and healthy dance form, has been around for hundreds of years. It originated in the Appalachian Mountains of the United States. There, the early settlers from Holland, Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland and Africa combined their dance traditions. They called it buck dancing, flat footing or just plain dancing'. It was usually done to live fiddle music. Clogging and tap dancing have common roots. The clog dance became the country cousin of tap. Tap is high impact while clogging is low. The term "clogging" comes from the heavy shoes once worn by the working people of Great Britain. In Holland, Belgium and France, the dance was done with wooden shoes and today many people still believe that cloggers dance in wooden shoes. In the English steel mills in the mid 18th century, dancing in wooden clogs was a popular pastime. Competitions were held and they danced on cobblestones with the upper body motionless while the feet and legs did all the work. Heavy wooden clogs were a hindrance so a switch was made to leather shoes and, to compensate for the loss of sound, copper pennies were nailed to the toe and heel. Present day cloggers use an oxford shoe with a special extra loud double steel tap.

The Okie Stompers, The Okie Steppers (ages 6-12) and Adrenaline (teens and young adults) are based in Norman, OK and our members are from all across the Oklahoma City metro area and beyond. All three groups are invited to dance every May in San Antonio on the Riverwalk Stage at the Cloggers Showcase; we have opened twice in Branson, MO for "Country Tonite";  July 4, 2002 we joined thousands of cloggers from all across America in Washington DC to dance in the Independence Day Parade and performed in front of Senators, Congressmen and other DC dignitaries, and then individual groups performed in front of the Lincoln Memorial; The Cowboy Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City is one of our favorite places to perform.  The Okie Stompers have been consistent at bringing home many 1st and 2nd place medals at the competitions which they attend.  Our main goal is to have a good time and we have a wonderful group of cloggers that are determined to do just that.  We are a Christian group that always says a group prayer before performances. Yearly we perform in Oklahoma at the:  Festival of the Arts (OKC); 89er Day Parade and Bluegrass Festival; The Oklahoma State Fair; Mayfair in Norman; and many other annual events plus conventions and other group gatherings.  Every year we have our Halloween party and performance at Riverwalk Assisted Living Center and our Christmas party at Rambling Oaks Assisted Living Center and the residents of these groups look forward to watching us and sharing our activities.  This year we are looking forward to adding the Watermelon Festival in Rush Springs.
