FAQ Flight Environment CLOUDS To a pilot knowledgeable in the science of meteorology, clouds are an indication of what is happening in the atmosphere. The location and type of cloud are evidence of such weather phenomena such as fronts, turbulence, thunderstorms, and tell the pilot what type of conditions may be expected during flight. CLASSIFICATIONS OF CLOUDS Clouds are classified into four families: high clouds, middle clouds, low clouds and clouds of vertical development. As well, clouds are identified by the way in which they form. There are two basic types: cumulus and stratus. Cumulus clouds form in rising air currents and are evidence of unstable air conditions. Stratus clouds form in horizontal layers and usually form as a layer of moist air is cooled below its saturation point. Clouds from which precipitation falls are designated nimbus clouds. The cloud heights referred to below are for the temperate regions. In the polar regions, clouds tend to occur at lower heights and in the tropics at greater heights.

Production
The setting of the Clouds requires two doors in the skene , one representing Strepsiades's house and the other, the Thinkery, both in the city of Athens. The play begins with Strepsiades and Pheidippides sleeping in their beds. Since the ancient Greek theater had no curtain, these two men in their beds had to be carried out in full view of the audience by stagehands (probably slaves) and placed in front of one of the doors of the skene representing Strepsiades's house. The audience was no doubt expected to imagine that this was an indoor scene, because it was not usual for Greeks to sleep outside. This assumption is strengthened by the fact that, since Pheidippides is sleeping under five blankets, the weather is cool, which would make it even less likely that this was intended as an outdoor scene. The method of presenting the scholarly activities that go on inside the Thinkery is by no means certain. K. J. Dover ( Aristophanic Comedy , Berkeley and Los Angeles, 1972, 107) suggests two possibilities. The students could come out of the door of the

    Clouds
When looking for synoptic scale weather patterns from space much can be learned looking at clouds. Clouds form when air is cooled to its dewpoint or the temperature, if the air is cooled, it reaches saturation. Air can reach saturation in a number of ways. The most common way is through lifting. As a bubble or parcel of air rises it moves into an area of lower pressure (pressure decreases with height). As this occurs the parcel expands. This requires energy, or work, which takes heat away from the parcel. So as air rises it cools. This is called an adiabatic process. The rate at which the parcel cools with increasing elevation is called the "lapse rate". The lapse rate of unsaturated air (air with relative humidity <100%) is 5.4 per 1000 feet (9.8

Email Us THE CLOUDS an introduction to the play by Aristophanes T HE satire in The Clouds The Acharnians The play was produced at the Great Dionysia in 423 B.C., but proved unsuccessful, Cratinus and Amipsias being awarded first and second prize. This is said to have been due to the intrigues and influence of Alcibiades, who resented the caricature of himself presented in the sporting Phidippides. A second edition of the drama was apparently produced some years later, to which the 'Parabasis' of the play as we possess it must belong, as it refers to events subsequent to the date named. For assistance with accessibility on any TPWD documents, please contact accessibility@tpwd.state.tx.us Clouds are a collection of tiny droplets of water that have formed on microscopic air particles. They cannot form in perfectly clean air, but such a condition does not exist naturally anywhere on the earth. No matter how clean and clear the air around us may look, tiny particles are suspended in and moving with it. Occasionally we get a glimpse of some of the larger ones, called motes, as they dance around in the rays of sunlight shining through a window in a partially darkened room. Illustration of the various types of clouds
It is easy to understand that the air above many of our cities contains dust, smoke, and other less desirable particles, but it may be more difficult to believe that country air, which appears to be so clean, also contains these particles. Dust, pollen grains, powdery soil, and rock dust are some of the things suspended in country air. Air over the oceans has its share, too. It contains wind-blown particles from the land as well as tiny salt crystals from the water. As these clusters whirl and dart about within the cloud, they occasionally bump into each other and stick together, forming larger, heavier clusters. When enough clusters combine, they become too heavy to stay up in the air and fall as rain. If the cloud is high enough, the raindrops may evaporate before they reach the ground.

Half.com *Also starring: Anthony Quinn, Giancarlo Giannini , Angelica Aragon, Evangelina Elizondo, Freddy Rodriguez, Debra Messing, Febronio Covarrubias, Roberto Huerta Review by Steve Rhodes Given how much I loved and was enchanted by LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE, I went to see A WALK IN THE CLOUDS with much excitement. The same director (Alfonso Arau) and the same cinematographer (Emmanuel Lubezki) did both pictures so my expectations were not unrealistic. Both pictures have a look and a beauty that is almost unsurpassed, but more on that later. A WALK IN THE CLOUDS tells the story of serviceman, Paul Sutton (Keanu Reeves), returning at the end of World War II. His wife rejects him, and he leaves home. He then comes to the aid of Victoria Aragon (Aitana Sanchez-Gijon) who is newly pregnant and has never been married. Paul agrees to pretend to be her husband for only a night. Most of the movie then consists of the proud, old, and extremely rich Mexican-American family of vintners trying to find out if they are really married or not. The Aragons live in great spender in the Napa Valley where the movie was actually filmed. The ethnic heritage and their great wealth made me think of the Gallo family albeit the Gallos are Italian-Americans.
