Cobra Snakes
Snakes are fun to know about. They are scary, poisonous createars that killed many people. And cobras are one of the most famous snakes (Cleopatra used an Egyptian cobra to kill herself). So, I choose cobras to make a research on.
Cobras
Cobras are venomous snakes of family Elapidae, of several genera. They generally inhabit tropical and desert regions of Asia and Africa. Cobras kill their prey, usually small rodents and birds, by injecting a neurotoxin through their hollow fangs. The King Cobra notably eats other snakes; it feeds almost entirely on other snakes, even venomous ones (ophiophagy). The spitting cobra can also incapacitate larger would-be predators by delivering irritating venom to their eyes. Cobras come in varying colors from black or dark brown to yellowish white. The (jet) black cobra found in North India is considered a sub-species of cobra.
The cobra's most recognizable feature is its hood, a flap of skin and muscle behind the head which it can flare, perhaps for the purpose of making it appear bigger and more threatening to predators. which may also serve to confuse enemies. The cobra's predators include the mongoose and possibly some raptors.

Cobra Snakes
Introduction
The cobra snake is the largest venomous snake in the world and probably also the deadliest in terms of known human deaths caused by a snake. Just like the coral snake (see the navigation panel to your right) they belong to the Elapidae family. Snakes in this family are found around the world including the Indian Ocean and the Pacific. The cobra snake can reach a length of almost 6 meter.
Most venomous snakes in Australia are Elapids and in some subtropical areas particularly in the rural tropics, deaths caused by Elapids is significant medical problem (White 2000)
Diet and Nutrition
Their preferred preys are rodents and birds. They does however also eat other snakes and some particular species as for instance the King Cobra, is said to have a preference for snakes. They kill their prey by injecting their neurotoxic poison into the prey through their fangs. The neurotoxin of cobra snakes has the ability of destroying the communication across the connection constituting the contact points between nerve cells. When this communication is destroyed the victim's muscles cannot be used in any kind of defense.
Habitat
Most Cobra snakes are found in desert regions of Africa and Asia.

The King Cobra snake is the largest venomous snake in the world. It preys on other snakes by subduing them with its venom and swallowing them whole. Learn more!
The heavy and muscular King Cobra can kill other snakes with its powerful venom. The snake’s hollow fangs grow to a length of 0.5 inch. The King Cobra punches them into its prey like hypodermic needles, and injects powerful venom. The venom glands lie behind the eyes. The snake can then dislocate its jaw to engulf large prey.
The King Cobra uses its menacing hood to warn off other animals. Its neck spreads to form a hood with a double chevron marking on the back. Its skin is olive green, tan or black with pale yellow crossbands down the length of the body. The underbelly is cream or yellow. The King Cobra detects prey by flicking its tongue out to collect scents from the air. Inside the mouth, the tongue passes over the Jacobson's organ - a receptor that analyzes different scents. Habitat and prey The King Cobra is mainly found in Asia, you can find it in clearings, amongst bamboo thickets and in the borders of the forest. In Northern India, the King Cobra can be found in forest, and up into the foothills of the Himalayas. Cobras can climb trees with ease, but will rarely do so unless chasing his next meal. King Cobras can also be found on farmland and in outlying parts of villages. As forests are cleaned, Cobras are increasingly encountered by humans.

Cobra Information Page 1
General Overview
Asian cobra - Naja naja
Scientific Data: Cobras belong to the family Elapidae (Reptilia: Serpentes). There is much discussion among researchers and taxonomists as to the actual variations of both the African and Asian species. Venom researchers have known of these differences for some time, but did not have a sound systematic framework on which to base this. It was not until recently, with an interest in developing more effective antivenins, that extensive scientific research has been conducted into these differences. Due to the ongoing research in the field, the classifications and taxonomic naming of the varieties of cobras is currently dynamic. I have attempted to use that information herein which is most widely accepted. In the past, Asian cobras have been generally classified as Naja naja. More recent population systematics research has revealed a number of sub-species as follows: N. naja in northern india and Pakistan, N. kauthia in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam; N. sumatrana in northern Malaysia and southern Thailand; N. oxiana in Pakistan, N. sagittifera in the Andaman Islands, N. atra in China, Taiwan, northern Vietnam, N. Philippinensis in the northern Philippines, N. samarensis in the southern Philippines, and N. sputatrix in southern Indonesia. The king cobra is classified as Ophiophagus hannah (aka Hamadryad), the spitting cobra as Naja nigricollis, the Egyptian cobra as Naja haje, the water cobras as N. boulengerina, the tree cobras as N. pseudohaje, the "pink" cobra as N. pallida, and the shield-nose cobra as N. aspidelaps.

Length: Range: All over Thailand and most of southeast Asia. Notes: Habitat: Active Time? Food: Defensive Behavior: Venom Toxicity: Very toxic, but monocled cobras (Naja kaouthia) and kraits (genus Bungarus) are more potent on the LD50 scale. The power of the King is in the volume of venom it can inject in one bite. Kings can kill elephants with a bite. Anti-Venin: There is a specific anti-venin for the king cobras, but if the hospital you are at does not have it there is an alternative. Tiger snake anti-venin can also work well.
