The goofy Bare-Eyed Cockatoo (Cacatua sanguinea) is a naturalclown and is an extremely entertaining pet! This species
is also good at mimicry and can be a talented talker. Atlhough it is not as flashy as some of the other cockatoo species, its personality shines! The elegant little Ducorp Cockatoo (Cacatua ducorps) is native to the Solomon Islands. Once very rare in aviculture, this species is bred in captivity with regularity now and is delightful as a pet or in the aviary.
The Moluccan Cockatoo
(Cacatua moluccensis) is one
of the most affectionate of the
cockatoos. If given a lot of
attention, this species becomes
a devoted pet. It is extremely intelligent and requires a lot of freedom and activity. We have been raising the Rose-Breasted Cockatoo (Eolophus roseicapillus) since 1981. Delightful as pets and wonderful in aviaries, this is one of our favorite species. Rosies should be fed a lean diet to avoid fatty lipomas. Known by the name of Galah in its native Australia, there it is an agricultural pest. One of the most popular cockatoos

Cockatoos
There are 17 species of cockatoos . Most are white in colour, but others come in grays and pinks, blacks, and in the Palm's case, deep blue. They are primarily found in the Indonesian islands. Cockatoos make wonderful pets because of their sweet nature. Cockatoos love to be cuddled and bond very easily with their human owners. Cockatoos aren't top talkers. Most individuals say a few words, but many do not. A few cockatoos become very good. Their voices don't have the tone and quality of an African grey's or Amazon's, but they're usually understandable enough. Cockatoos are not usually picky eaters. Fruits, veggies, and pretty much everything else should be added to the diet daily. Most cockatoos love sharing mealtimes with their "flock", and certain owners will provide their bird with his own plate! Low-lactose dairy foods like skim milk, yogurt, and most cheeses are usually great. Even meat can be fed, although beef and pork should only be fed in very small amounts; chicken and

Goffin Cockatoo - Cacatua Goffiniana The Scientific Facts
Goffin Cockatoos, like other cockatoos and parrots have a curved beak shape and a zygodactyl foot, a foot that has two forward toes and two backwards toes. However you can always tell a cockatoo by their crest, a collection of feathers on their head that they can raise or lower. Unlike parrots they also have a gall bladder. Their coloring, predominately white, is caused by the lack of the Dyck texture feather, a unique feather composition specific to parrots which enables them to have vibrant blue and green feathers.
Goffin Cockatoos live thirty years or more in captivity and reach sexual maturity around two to three years of age. When breeding, they generally lay one to four white eggs every two to three days. The young hatch in 24 to 30 days and become independent in 12 to 14 weeks. Surgical sexing is recommended to determine gender since the eye color is not always an accurate way to determine sex. Goffins are particularly difficult to breed.

Cockatoos account for 17 of the 330 known species of parrots. These species once occurred naturally in Australia, New Guinea, the islands of Indonesia, the Solomon Islands, and the Philippines. The Australian species include the Greater Sulfur Crested, the Gang Gang, Galah (Rose Breasted) Leadbeaters (Major Mitchell's), Bare-eyed, Slenderbilled (Longbilled), Glossy Black, Red-tailed Black, Yellow-tailed Black, White-tailed Black, and the Black Palm. The Indonesian, New Guinea, and other island species include the Umbrella, Lesser Sulfur, Citron, Moluccan, Goffins, Triton, Eleonora, Blue-eyed, Ducrops, and Red-vented.
All cockatoos have moveable crest feathers. Cockatoos not only differ from other parrots because they are crested, but for a few exceptions, they are either black or white. This is caused by the lack of the Dyck texture in their feathers. In other parrots the presence of this feature produces color by the way it reflects light. Cockatoos also lack oil glands, but they do produce a fine powder which is the result of the breakdown of their down feathers. You can always tell if there's a cockatoo in the house look at the TV; it has white powder on the screen. A word of warning this powder can aggravate respiratory problems in some people.
Domestically bred hand-fed babies acquired just after weaning make the best pets. Unweaned babies (still eating formula) can cost less but it is best to let experienced individuals handle the weaning process properly. The larger species, such as the Greater Sulfur Crested or the Moluccan could cost from $1800 to $3000. Smaller members of this group can run from $800 up to $1800.

There is no doubt about it. Cockatoos are absolutely the cuddliest of all the pet birds. Most Cockatoos would be happy if you cuddled with them all day every day.
The larger Cockatoos are also the loudest of any pet bird. A Moluccan Cockatoo playing with a toy is one of the funniest things you could see, but having a volume control for the bird would make it much easier on the eardrums.
There are several different types of Cockatoos – some are very common and some are extremely rare. Most are mainly white with yellow or salmon crests, one is grey with a pink breast and some are black. They can range in size from about 12 inches up to 25 inches.
Some of the common Cockatoos are the Moluccan, the Sulphur Crested, the Lesser Sulphur Crested, the Goffin and the Umbrella. As with all birds, Cockatoos need an appropriately sized cage, with plenty of room for climbing and playing. There should be lots of room for toys for him to play with, as Cockatoos love to play. Of course, your Cockatoo should be out of his cage as much as possible to spend time with his favourite person. Because they love to chew, Cockatoos must be under supervision while out of the cage if you value the woodwork or the furniture in your home.

Umbrella The Umbrella Cockatoo, Cacatua alba also known as White Cockatoo is a medium-sized, up to 46cm long, cockatoo endemic to the islands of Halmahera, Bacan, Ternate, Tidore, Kasiruta and Mandiole in North Maluku, Indonesia. At first sight it appears to be a white parrot with brown or black eyes and a dark grey beak. If it is surprised, it extends a large and striking crest, which has a semicircular shape (similar to an umbrella, hence the name). The crest is normally recumbent. The underside of the wings and tail have pale yellow or lemon colour, which flash when they fly.
The Umbrella Cockatoo can live up to, and perhaps beyond, 80 years in age. They are very social, needing a lot of interaction. They can be very loud and their calls (a very loud screeching noise) can be heard up to three miles away.
Eleanora Medium Sulphur-crested cockatoos, also known as Eleanora cockatoos, are affectionate, playful and highly intelligent birds. They are excellent companions for those who want a charming, loving bird that likes to cuddle.
Medium Sulphur-cresteds and other cockatoo species can be very long lived and a few individuals in zoos have lived up to 50 to 60 years.

Therefore, it's important to house a Citron in a cage with a bird-proof lock so they cannot escape their confines when you are not at home. They are highly intelligent, very affectionate, highly sensitive, and super gentle. Citrons make great lovable family pets. ( Oh God , Here we go again... ) Most people not familiar with large parrots fail to see the "Big Picture" Beautiful and Cuddly: These are the words normally used to describe one of natures most unusual parrots, the Moluccan Cockatoo. It's unusual in that it's one of the few "lap birds , and acts more like a dog than a bird sometimes. As babies, Moluccans so easily touch your heart that it's hard to walk away from them without taking one home. Their liquid eyes look like black pools of inquisitiveness as they carefully study your facial expressions, and you seem to be able to look right into their very souls. Both Moluccans and Umbrella cockatoos possess a sweetness that few parrots can match, for awhile.

    COCKATOOS
Cockatoos come from Australia and the surrounding islands. These lovable imps would like nothing more than to be surgically attached to their owners. They may look extremely innocent, as though they would never get into any trouble. But out of all my birds, my cockatoo is the most dedicated to mischief. She will act innocent, even when caught in the act. They are among the greatest manipulators (people and objects alike) of all time. They are great tool users and unfortunately, their owners are the tools! They are the most tactile of all the parrots and can spend hours cuddling with you. Intelligence combined with curiosity and excellent observation skills, make a dangerous combination. Umbrella cockatoos are the most prone to problems such as feather picking. They also are very hard to wean. In their opinion, even if they are 100 years old, they are not too old to still be handfed. Though cockatoos can learn to talk, their talking is normally not as clear as in the Amazons or greys. I have also found that they make take longer to talk than other parrots. My cockatoo mumbled for years before she was able to say things clearly. Certain species of cockatoos, especially the Moluccans can be prize winning screamers.
