Coin Collecting Value
Within coin collecting the condition of a coin is principal to its value; a quality case is regularly valued an abundant times as much as a pitiable case in point—although there are frequently exceptions to this broad tenet. Collectors have produced systems to describe the overall state of coins. One older classification describes a coin as being inside a scope starting from "poor" to "uncirculated". The American Numismatic Association has adopted the newer Sheldon classification, used chiefly in the United States. It uses a 1–70 number range, where 70 represents a faultless example and 1 represents a coin only just identifiable as to its kind.
Immeasurable individuals explore loose change and bank wrapped rolls of coins for collectible coins. Astonishingly, mature coins persist to circulate. A few greater than 100 years old! Look for expressions like "coin roll hunting" to spot web sites that are committed to this hobby.
Scratches of any kind, such as holes, rim dents, preservation, maintenance, re-engraving or gouges, can considerably diminish the value of a coin. Specimens are sporadically "whizzed"cleaned or polished in an effort to pass them off as being superior grades or as confirmation strikes. In general, the purchaser is cautioned to be vigilant of any unfamiliar seller's claims. Because of the significantly poorer prices for cleaned or broken coins, some focus in on their collection. There is a marketplace for round about any rare or outdated coin.

Coin Collecting History
The value of old coins and the role they have played in coin collecting history all ties accordingly into the need of human beings to have a tangible representation of value against the good for which they trade. Money is quite simply a medium of exchange. Today we use checks, plastic cards and paper notes, but what did ancient societies use in their daily commerce? The earliest known coins are from the Lydian society from Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey), which was in close proximity to the Greek colonies in Asia Minor. This society’s coins were made of a gold and silver alloy, and were first used around 600 BC. The Lydians were the leaders of their era with a keen understanding of how business and commerce works. Their advanced thinking enabled them to build a wealthy society which revolutionized trade and commerce. Coin collecting allows you to see just how the designs of coins have progressed throughout history. Coin collecting based on more than the silver dollar coin value but on the appreciation of it as a collectible is thought to have begun in the 14th century and is often referred to as the "Hoby of Kings". Many European kings would actually seek out and collect the rare ancient coins of past societies which often revealed that no two coins where exactly identical.

Coin Collecting
Coin collecting ranks among the world's top hobbies. It is the first hobby that comes to the mind of teachers who are giving ideas for students on writing an essay on 'Hobbies'. Such a popular hobby apparently does not require any explanation. But do you really know how vast this hobby can be? Read on to know. Coin collecting is not known as the 'Hobby of Kings' for no reason. Historically, the hobby was started by the early Romans right at the time the coins were first invented. But common people could never pursue the hobby as the nobility and the regality could. The elite people of the community had all the resources needed to collect the kinds of coins they wanted. That is why coin collecting became concentrated in the hands of the rich people of society with time, money and other kinds of resources at their disposal.
It can be said that the first true coin collector of the world was the famous Italian, Petrarch. He lived in the 14th century, and was a great scholar and poet. Other notable coin collectors who are famous in history are King Farouk of Egypt, Louis the XIV of France, Emperor Maximilian and more recently, Louis Eliasberg who had a whole set of all American coins ever minted, till the time he was alive. In fact, he was the only person to have such a set.
This article deals with some common aspects of the hobby of coin collecting, things that an avid coin collector would want to know.

Coin Collecting - A great hobby for
young and old alike!
Coin collecting is no doubt a passion of yours as it is mine. My hope is that you will find a little pearl or gold nugget of wisdom that you can put to good use. Also, this site is being created to serve as a coin collecting guide for all. It will include all United States Mint regular issues from half-cents through double eagles and most everything in between. I will also include information regarding commemoratives as well as investment topics. Numismatics is a wonderful hobby that can take many forms. Some collectors initially get started by collecting pocket change for specific dates to fill some sort of coin album. Other more experienced collectors search coin shops, shows, and auctions to add to their holdings. Still others get their start from an older relative who has enjoyed the hobby for many years. There are several reasons that someone would want to begin coin collecting as a hobby. Enjoyment comes up first on my list. Another reason could be from an investment standpoint. Some people will purchase a rare coin strictly on an investment basis. Others turn their hobby into a business and become coin dealers.
These people are usually highly knowledgeable
in all areas of numismatics.

New 1878-P VAM 85 B1 Reverse Morgan Dollar Discovery at Coin Community
No Morgan Dollar has been subject to more in-depth study than the 1878 Philadelphia issues. They are popular both for the enormous number and the striking appearance of their varieties, all in the context of the US Mint scrambling to learn how to produce the prodigious number of 2 million Dollars per month as mandated by the Bland-Allison Act. There are over 200 known varieties, with more minor examples being discovered every day. Having been scrutinized for over 40 years, it was assumed that all of the major variations were long since known.
Until now. A new B1 Reverse has been found for the first time since 1965. It seems impossible that such a striking and rare variety should go unfound after all these years of study but it has happened.
Read about this incredible discovery from the very first post
