Herbal Cures For The Common Cold
Herbal Remedies The search for the cure for the common cold still eludes us. It is a constant battle between the virus and us, one that we seem to be losing due to the ever increasing immunity of viruses to modern drugs. Mother Nature has provided us with a powerful antibiotics in herbs and essential oils. Unlike synthetic antibiotics that are powerless against viruses and funguses, essential oils such as oregano tea tree and thyme are effective against these pathogens too. Be preprepared for the cold and flu season by stocking your herbal medicine chest with a ready supply of herbs that are antiseptic, as well as those that help reduce fevers, ease breathing and break up congestion, quiet coughs, and soothe aches and pains. Cold care is one area where herbs really shine because of the many helpful properties these healing plants have. When the first colonists came to the shores of North America, they brought their favorite cold and cough remedies with them, Angelica vervain , and Pleurisy Root , to name a few. These hardy folk adopted the herbs the Native Americans used, such as linden for colds, fevers and nervous headaches - much the same purposes as modern herbalists do today.

It has also been noted that the current flu vaccine does not provide immunity for some of this years influenza strains. Recent medical evidence shows that many people have significant numbers of intestinal parasites living inside of themselves and that these parasites may be the cause of your cold and flu ( influenza ) problems . Frequent symptoms of these parasite infections are low resistance to illnesses such as colds and flu , asthma, allergies, colitis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and malaise.
People around the world are infested with parasites including many from countries previously thought to be reasonably free of intestinal parasites including the United States. Recent medical studies indicate that American men live shorter lives of up to 4 years because of parasites . Other medical studies find that the average male carries up to 2 lbs of parasites inside of his body.

Common cold
The common cold generally involves a runny nose, nasal congestion, and sneezing. You may also have a sore throat, cough, headache, or other symptoms. Over 200 viruses can cause a cold.
Causes
We call it the “common cold” for good reason. There are over one billion colds in the United States each year. You and your children will probably have more colds than any other type of illness. Children average three to eight colds per year. They continue getting them throughout childhood. Parents often get them from the kids. Colds are the most common reason that children miss school and parents miss work. Children usually get colds from other children. When a new strain is introduced into a school or day care, it quickly travels through the class. Colds can occur year-round, but they occur mostly in the winter (even in areas with mild winters). In areas where there is no winter, colds are most common during the rainy season. When someone has a cold, their runny nose is teeming with cold viruses. Sneezing, nose-blowing, and nose-wiping spread the virus. You can catch a cold by inhaling the virus if you are sitting close to someone who sneezes, or by touching your nose, eyes, or mouth after you have touched something contaminated by the virus.

Worse yet, there's no cure. Antibiotics, champs at knocking out bacterial infections, are down for the count against cold viruses. So we sniffle on bravely, maybe take a cold pill or two, and hope the symptoms will disappear in the customary week or so. But there's actually a lot more we can do to get through a cold more comfortably, say doctors who specialize in self-care medicine. Some remedies, they say, may even help us overcome a cold more quickly. Here are the best remedies the experts have to offer. Take C and see.

Megadoses of vitamin C are controversial. The controversy surrounding vitamin C swirls around the discussion of Vitamin C and the common cold. Many studies have shown that Vitamin C is quite effective in treating and preventing colds. The medical profession is not very interested. The popular media always seem to take the same position. It goes something like this:
    • A study shows positive results
    • The results are discussed
    • The story ends with the warning of taking too much C and that we are all probably better off just eating a proper diet.
It is all such a shame. Linus Pauling's first and second books about vitamin C, Vitamin C and the Common Cold and its follow-up Vitamin C the Common Cold and the Flu explain in great detail the relationship between a colds severity and our vitamin C status. Pauling's work was met with a great deal of controversy and skepticism. Please see the editorial Vitamin C, RDA's and Politics

    Colds and Flu
Common respiratory infections include the apparently similar cases of common cold and the flu, since the symptoms are almost identical, it becomes very difficult to determine which one you may be suffering from. In general, a common cold sets in very slowly and it takes some time for the symptoms to appear, in comparison the flu is quite sudden in setting in and a person is stricken with the symptoms very quickly, which is to say that in cases of flu, feeling alright in the morning is no guarantee that you will feel fine in the afternoon as well, it may hit you in that short span of time. The typical symptoms connected and identified with the common cold include: physical discomfort like nasal congestion, the appearance of a sore throat and resultant pain , and regular sneezing, these symptoms of the common cold are in general milder than those that are experienced during flu, though they have many similarities. The symptoms during affliction with the flu include besides those mentioned above, a fever that may come on immediately with the other signs, a feeling of acute
