Do you use Adobe’s Flex Code Search?
My team at Adobe is trying to gather some data on and evaluate the usage of the Code Search (aka Blueprints) feature that available both as part of the Flex online community help , the Community Help Client (CHC) and as a separate plugin into Eclipse (currently only Mac is supported). If you use Code Search, we are wondering how you use it including whether you use it in the browser, the CHC, the Eclipse plugin or any combination of the three. Also, do you find the results useful? If you don’t use it or aren’t even sure what I’m talking about, read on. Please share any feedback via comments on this post.
Haven’t heard of Code Search? Well, it will display relevant code snippets to you based upon your search terms. For example, if I were to search for DataGrid on help.adobe.com, by default the first result is a single code snippet (see image below). I also have the option of of choosing to return only code snippets in which case I will get multiple code sample results. The assumption behind this feature is that oftentimes coders are simply looking for an example to copy/paste into their application and then modify and somtimes aren’t terribly in need of the full explanation of an article or full help document.
