College Entrance Exams Once someone has found an accredited college they would like to attend it is important to research their college entrance exam requirements. There are undergraduate exams and graduate exams. The University of Tennessee (UTK) requires either the ACT or SAT. The ACT should have a score of 21 while the SAT should have a critical reading score of 510. Also an incoming student must have maintained a 2.5 GPA in high school (UTK, 2010). No essay is required at UTK. The University of Tennessee requires a Graduate Record Exam (GRE), Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), Law School Admission Test (LSAT), Medical Admission Test (MCAT), Miller Analogies Test (MAT), or Educational Testing Services (ETS) for all entering graduate students. These tests are offered to see where a student is in the education. Some colleges require a certain score but, remember, the tests can be taken more than once; the higher the score, the better the chance of getting into college. If a test is not passed some colleges will simply have the student take remedial courses to catch up. Not all tests are either pass or fail; some are geared to simply see where a student needs to begin their college experience.

College Entrance Exams College Entrance Exams Most colleges and universities require either one of two college entrance exams: the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT Plus Writing. The University of California and other selective universities also require the SAT Subject Tests . Specifically, the University of California requires two SAT Subject Tests from two different subject areas: English, History and Social Studies, Mathematics (Level 2 only), Science, and Languages. USC does not require the SAT Subject Tests and submitting the results from these exams is optional, but they can be very helpful in evaluating scholarship applicants. The SAT Subject Tests are recommended to be taken as soon as possible after completing the course in the subject area; the foreign language tests are recommended to be taken after two years of study. These exams are offered multiple times throughout the year. The SAT Reasoning Test and the SAT Subject Tests cannot be taken on the same day. As a senior, the last testing date that most colleges and universities will accept is December. So check with the high school college counseling office for more information on testing dates.
