Revolutionary War Timeline
Patrick Henry was one of the leading lights of the American Revolution, a voice that would not be silenced until Americans were free and could govern themselves. He was born in 1736, in Hanover County, Virginia. He was educated at home, where he learned Latin, among other things. He tried to be a business owner, but the business went bankrupt. He studied law and earned his law license in 1760. He made a name for himself in winning the famed Parson's Cause, during which he argued that a king who would veto a law passed by a locally elected legislature was "a tyrant who forfeits the allegiance of his subjects." This was the beginning of his struggle to ensure independence for the 13 Colonies. Henry was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses , one of the colonies' first representative governments, in 1764. The following year, he introduced seven resolutions against Great Britain's new tax on paper the Stamp Act With fiery words and a loud, convincing voice, Henry convinced his fellow burgesses to approve the resolutions, which sent a loud and clear message to the government in Great Britain that the American colonists were tired of "taxation without representation."

The Revolutionary War has ended and many settlers are coming to America. You and your group will be assuming a huge responsibility for recruiting new colonists to a specific region of America. In just a few weeks a ship from Europe will be docking with colonists eager to start a new life. There are, however, other groups who also want to recruit these new arrivals. Your challenge is to conduct a successful recruitment drive.
THE CHALLENGE:
The clock has been turned back to 1790. A group of colonists have just arrived in America. They have not decided where to settle. You want these colonists to settle in your region of the colonies. You are an indentured servant and have been promised your freedom if you are successful at recruiting these new settlers. You have been told by the local officials in charge that you HAVE to convince them to settle in your region. The new state charter requires you to recruit a certain number of settlers each month.
THE TASK:
Prepare a presentation to this group(the class) promoting your colonial region. To help recruit your new settlers you have to come in with the following:
