The Colorado School of Mines' annual Microtunneling Short Course has established itself as the premier instructional venue for microtunneling worldwide. Now in it's 17th year, the course has already trained more than 1,600 students, ranging from contractors and engineers to owner agency representatives. The 2010 Microtunneling Short course covers the latest in emerging technologies from this growing field. With more and more demand for underground services in urban areas, the need to use minimally invasive construction techniques will only increase. The Microtunneling Short Course is a three-day, intensive course presented by a panel of international experts and organized by Levent Ozdemir, retired from the Colorado School of Mines and Timothy Coss of Microtunneling, Inc.     Physics research highlighted by the APS
    Graduate research from the Carr Theoretical Physics Research Group in the Physics Department at CSM was highlighted in July in the " Kaleidoscope images " for Physical Review A: Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics. The article, entitled " Hyperfine molecular Hubbard Hamiltonian ," is on the subject of quantum many body dynamics and treats ultracold molecules, the next wave of ultracold physics. The work is supported by a Physics at the Information Frontier grant from the National Science Foundation . First author and CSM physics graduate student Michael Wall is giving an invited talk on the paper at the Quantum Technologies Conference in Poland this semester.

[The Research Group] The Geodynamics and Ore Deposit Research Group brings together the expertise of 5 active academic and research staff members . With over 20 graduate students , the research group is one of the largest of its kind in the United States. [Graduate Program] Education of geologists for positions within the minerals industry has been a hallmark of the Colorado School of Mines since its inception. Our graduate program in economic geology focuses on an integration of both traditional descriptive and genetic understanding of the broad geological environment of mineralization .     Celebrating 25 Years of Graduate Studies and Research in Geophysics! The Center for Wave Phenomena (CWP) at the Colorado School of Mines supports a graduate level interdisciplinary research and education program in seismic exploration, monitoring and wave propagation. The main focus of the CWP program is on seismic modeling, imaging, and inversion methods, as well as on improving the accuracy and efficiency of seismic processing algorithms, especially for application to regions of structural complexity. CWP, established at the Colorado School of Mines in 1984, is partially supported by an international consortium of 23 oil and service companies as well as various government agencies. Housed in the Geophysics Department in the Green Center, we have excellent computational facilities.
