41. Buchenwald Concentration Camp - Getting To The Former Camp

Getting to Buchenwald Concentration Camp
Bell Tower and monument on the way to the Buchenwald camp My tour of the Buchenwald concentration camp in October 1999 began in the city of Weimar where I boarded Bus No. 6 for the Ettersberg hill. Buses leave once each hour from the Goethe Platz in the heart of historic Weimar. The bus headed north on Karl-Liebknecht Strasse, which was formerly named Adolf-Hitler Strasse during the Third Reich. Liebknecht was the Jewish leader of the Spartacus League, which became the German Communist Party. The bus proceeded to the Hauptbahnhof (main railroad station) where a group of boisterous teenagers got on; I found it hard to believe that these laughing students were headed to Buchenwald for a tour of the former horror camp. I had a feeling of apprehension because in the early days, before a railroad spur line was built to Buchenwald, prisoners arrived at this station before being marched to the camp. Prisoners built railroad spur line to Buchenwald camp in 1943 In October 1999, this section of the town of Weimar looked like a slum with many old buildings in disrepair and new buildings that looked like cheap construction. The contrast between Weimar in the former Communist East Germany and other similar towns in West Germany was remarkable. In Weimar, everywhere I looked, I saw graffiti, weeds, and abandoned buildings with all the windows broken.

Communist Government in Laos Continues to Butcher Hmong People
H E United Nations China ... email posted Monday, 20 September 2004 The human rights abuses of the Communist Laotian government continue in their persecution of the mountain tribe of Hmong people. " Children of Laos tribe 'butchered by soldiers' " is a disturbing story reported by Kim Sengupta in the Independent (United Kingdom) on Sept. 14, 2004. The torture and slaughter of Hmong children, for example, is one aspect of the state-sponsored terror from the brutal Laotian regime. With the United Nations being dominated by rogue states with little respect for human rights, it's a waste of time to think that they will do anything real to help human rights in Laos, just as they did nothing real to help the crisis in Rwanda, and just as they are doing virtually nothing for Sudan (the brutal Sudanese government was even put on the UN's human right's commission this year, as if they were a legitimate government standing on the moral high ground!). But I urge the United States to cease recognition of the terror regime in Laos and cut off financial aid and trade.

Communist Party of Pakistan - Definition
Communist Party of Pakistan , a communist political party in Pakistan . CPP was founded in Calcutta (India) on March 6 . A decision was taken at the Second All India Conference of Communist Party of India , which was held in Calcutta at that time, that a separate communist party ought to be created in the new state Pakistan . The thesis was that Pakistan , being a small (in comparision to India ) and unstable country was ripe for revolution. The delegate from Pakistan separated themselves and held a separate session were they constituted the CPP. Sajjad Zahir (founder, All India Progressive Writers Association), from West Pakistan , was elected General Secretary. The delegates from East Pakistan elected an East Pakistan Provincial Committee. Many muslim leaders of CPI were sent to Pakistan to help the build-up of the party there. The attempt of making a revolution in Pakistan falied. The leaders of CPP were jailed. In there was the Rawalpindi Conspiracy Case , in which many leading members were convicted. In general, the party was forcibly repressed by successive governments. Diplomatic intervention by Nehru led to the most prominent CPP leaders being freed and sent into exile in India (or, in the view of some, sent back to India). At this stage CPP was in a very bad shape in West Pakistan, but in East Pakistan the party did have some base and developed mass work. It was however extremely difficult to have an unified underground political organization spanning over such a vast territory. In reality the East Pakistan branch operated quite autonomously.

The Vietnam War
by Neal McLaughlin August 2004 Long before the first 35 American military advisors ever-stepped foot onto the soil of Southeast Asian and long before the construction of the first Special Forces out -post, France had already colonized the easternmost region of the Indochina peninsula. In the early part of the 19th century the race was on for establishing a Colonial Empire. The French quickly seized Cochin China as a colony and in 1863 became the protective force of Cambodia, followed by Annam and Tonkin in 1884. These four states were to be unionized into Indochina in 1887 with Laos completing the union in 1893. During World War II the French were forced to allow the Army of Japan to utilize their colonies in North Indochina, however, when the Japanese moved into South Indochina in 1941, the Americans, deeming this a threat to the Philippines, reacted by freezing all of the Japanese assets in America. Toward the end of World War II as the Japanese invaders were pulling out of French Indochina, France had announced their plans for an alliance of Indochina within the French union thereby allowing the states to form their own governments.
