By Peter Goldmann , President, FraudAware Hospitality The report also shows that last year, brand Web sites were the source of 66% of the brands' centrally booked Internet reservations. The resounding message, of course, is that Internet-based business is rapidly becoming the preferred method for booking reservations. Importantly, this trend is only the latest in a series of transitions of hotel business operations to electronic protocols. Food and beverage transactions...automated check out and electronic room keys have been standard operating procedure for years. The Security Challenge Why is this important? Along with the wonderful employee productivity and financial payoffs of electronic operations has come an enormous new challenge for management: Cyber-crime. Despite the whiz-bang capabilities of high-tech customer data storage, transaction archives, and networked computing, the opportunities for cyber-criminals to steal confidential data...manipulate financial numbers...and embezzle money are more plentiful than any hotel executive would really want to know.

The Criminal Process After the Arrest Your Rights Step by Step ... Mail Fraud MESSAGE:
There are a variety of internet crimes that are often termed "cyber crimes". These crimes include charges related to child pornography, identity theft, hacking, computer fraud, cyber stalking and others. Computers and the internet are now used for such a huge variety of activities, including accounting, transmission of data and a multitude of other actions that one could be charged with a computer crime as well as wire fraud and mail fraud depending upon the circumstances of the case. If you have been arrested and charged with such a crime it is critical that you contact a Los Angeles computer and internet crime defense lawyer at once. Defending these crimes takes specific skills and understanding as well as experience. At the Law Offices of Robert Schwartz, the legal team is proven and experienced in the defense of white collar crimes and would like to review and evaluate the case against you.
When facing serious charges related to internet or computer crimes, you want to ensure that you enlist the assistance of a skilled defense lawyer. These cases often need an independent investigation in order to find other evidence for the defense; having a strong set of resources for the defense is an important aspect of defending such crimes. At the Law Offices of Robert Schwartz, the legal team can seek out defense options to employ, and for errors in the case against you, whether in the arrest procedure, in search and seizure or other violation of your rights. In some cases, when the client's rights were violated by law enforcement, a court challenge can be filed regarding the violation that can result in the evidence being suppressed, and the case dismissed. Strong defense efforts must begin immediately after the arrest, or as soon as you become aware that you are under investigation for any internet or computer crime.

Criminal Division
The Criminal Division is responsible for prosecuting violations of federal criminal laws. The division includes prosecutors in Cedar Rapids and Sioux City. The Assistant United States Attorneys who make up the division bring a wealth of experience to the task. They work closely with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. They are responsible for all phases of the criminal cases presented to them by these investigators. They determine, with the guidance of the Criminal Chief, whether there is enough evidence to prosecute and to present proposed charges to the Grand Jury. The division pursues a variety of federal crimes, including: Drugs, under both the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) and High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) programs; White Collar Anti-Terrorism Computer/Internet Crime ; and Immigration offenses.
Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF)
The OCDETF program was initiated in October of 1982 and authorized by Congress in December of that year. Its purpose is to identify, target, dismantle and prosecute the most significant and violent drug trafficking organizations within each district. It accomplishes this by working fully and effectively with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Information is coordinated and shared between various agencies which allows them to target criminal drug trafficking organizations with multiple offenders spread over large geographic areas. In an OCDETF investigation, the goal is to dismantle the entire organization from the street level distribution through the importer or manufacturer.

Computer forensics is the specialized practice of investigating computer media for the purpose of discovering and analyzing available, deleted, or "hidden" information that may serve as useful evidence in a legal matter. Computer forensics can be used to uncover potential evidence in many types of cases including, for example:
  • Industrial espionage Money laundering Piracy Sexual harassment Theft of intellectual property Unauthorized access to confidential information Blackmail Corruption Decryption Destruction of information Fraud Illegal duplication of software Unauthorized use of a computer Child pornography
Computer forensics combines specialized techniques with the use of sophisticated software to view and analyze information that cannot be accessed by the ordinary user. This information may have been "deleted" by the user months or even years prior to the investigation, or may never have been saved to begin with - but it may still exist in whole or in part on the computer's drive. It is always in the best interest of the attorney, the client, and the matter to locate a forensics specialist who can assist in all stages of building a case, including:
