To understand the foundation of computer ethics, it is important to look into the different schools of ethical theory . Each school of ethics influences a situation in a certain direction and pushes the final outcome of an ethical dilemma to fit its target schema. Modern computer ethic has built its foundation from Relativism Kantianism Utilitarianism , and Social Contract and continues to intertwine with modern ethical theory. Relativism is the understanding that there are no universal moral norms of right and wrong. In the school of relativistic ethical belief, ethicists divide it into two connected but different structures, subject (Moral) and culture (Anthropological). Moral relativism is the idea that each person decides what is right and wrong for them.

Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search The Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics were created in 1992 by the Computer Ethics Institute . The commandments were introduced in the paper "In Pursuit of a 'Ten Commandments' for Computer Ethics" by Ramon C. Barquin as a means to create "a set of standards to guide and instruct people in the ethical use of computers." The Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics copies the style of the Ten Commandments from The Bible and uses the archaic "thou shalt" and "thou shalt not" found in the King James version. The commandments have been widely quoted in computer ethics literature but also have been criticized by both the hacker community and some in academia. For instance, Dr. Ben Fairweather of the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility has described them as "simplistic" and overly restrictive. The CISSP — an organization of computer security professionals — has used the commandments as a foundation for its own ethics rules.

Computer Ethics Article- A clean impact
by Anna Elizabeth Kuruvilla Computer ethics is the analysis of the nature and the social impact of computer technology and the corresponding formulation and justification of policies for the ethical use of technology. Ethics cover both social as well as personal policies for the ethical use of technology. The policy vacuum is a commonly faced problem while dealing with computer ethics. Another difficulty in the path is the conceptual vacuum. This enhances the registration of an analysis, which facilitates a coherent conceptual framework within which one has to formulate a policy for action. This will aid the determination of programs and instances of the same program. But in the barrier of coherent conceptual framework too, policy formulation through computer technology will be tough. The distinction and identification of what has to be done, and understanding about the situation are not to be linked with computer ethics. Ethics is a dynamic and complex field of study, which takes into account, the relationships between facts, conceptualization, policies and values with regard to the ever changing computer technology. It is neither a fixed set of rules nor the application of ethical principles to a value-free technology.

    The Place of Cyberethics
How do Cyberethics fit into the overall scheme of Information Systems Management? This is the question we seek to answer. New technology creates challenges in the areas of privacy, property, security and individual identity and radically reshapes life styles around the globe. While the scholarly debate continues as we define the field, it seems not unreasonable to suggest that such a task is best handled by those who understand the capabilities and limitations of the technology, the tools of philosophical and ethical reasoning as developed over the millenia, and are sensitive to the spiritual impact of these technologies. Thus, we call for a broad scale dialog to understand, then direct the path of these helpful but disruptive inventions.
