In the , and early CGI advanced enough so that for the first time it was possible to create realistic 3D computer animation. The film The Phantom Menace was widely noted for its heavy use of computer graphics. Some people argue that completely computer-generated art isn't really art at all, since computers can't really appreciate beauty. See the definition of art The emerging answer seems to be that they makes a great paintbrush. A paintbrush makes no commentary about the quality of the work, but in the hands of a master can demonstrate the subtlest shadings and evoke the strongest emotions. The computer is a tool, and a liberating one; your standard paintbrush also doesn't have an Undo feature.

Computer-generated imagery
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Computer-generated imagery CGI ) is the application of the field of computer graphics (CG) or, more specifically, 3D computer graphics to special effects in films television programs commercials simulators and simulation generally, and printed media. Video games usually use real-time computer graphics, but may also include pre-rendered " cut scenes " and intro movies and full motion videos that would be typical CGI applications. CGI is used for visual effects because computer generated effects are more controllable than other more physically based processes, such as constructing miniatures for effects shots or hiring extras for crowd scenes, and because it allows the creation of images that would not be feasible using any other technology. It can also allow a single graphic artist to produce such content without the use of actors, expensive set pieces, or props. 3D computer graphics software is used to make computer-generated imagery for movies, etc. Recent availability of CGI software and increased computer speeds have allowed individual artists and small companies to produce professional grade films, games, and fine art from their home computers. This has brought about an Internet subculture with its own set of global celebrities, clichés, and technical vocabulary. Simulators, particularly flight simulators, and simulation generally, make extensive use of CGI techniques for representing the outside world.

Handmade Art
The following art is completely handmade, i.e. Woman with Hair Pulled Back mechanical pencil on white cardstock This is a pencil drawing of a woman I saw in a magazine advertisement. The dark specks and other irregularities seen in the large version are a consequence of the damage the drawing has suffered over time, being moved from one cardboard box to another. Woman with Hand in Hair mechanical pencil on white cardstock This is a pencil drawing of another woman I saw in a magazine advertisement. This drawing has also suffered over time, but, like the previous one, it was never that good to begin with. Graveyard at Halloween (449x308 true-color JPEG)

Computer-generated art - Definition
A computer-generated mountain Computer-generated art is art created with a computer . The term is usually appied to works created entirely with a computer. It is a subset of digital art Movies make heavy use of computer-generated graphics; it is called computer-generated imagery (CGI) in the film industry. In the , and early CGI advanced enough so that for the first time it was possible to create realistic 3D computer animation. The film The Phantom Menace was widely noted for its heavy use of computer graphics. More affordable computers and software provide several advantages for thrifty artists. Compared to the price of oils, an easel and canvases, a PC and the occasional trip to the copy shop can be an attractive alternative. There are two main paradigms in computer generated imagery. The simplest is 2D computer graphics which reflect how you might draw using a pencil and a piece of paper. In this case, however, the image is on the computer screen and the instrument you draw with might be a tablet stylus or a mouse. What is generated on your screen will appear to be drawn with a pencil, pen or paintbrush. The second kind is 3D computer graphics , where the screen becomes a window into a virtual environment, where you arrange objects to be "photographed" by the computer. Of course the image generated is 2D, so you can always take it into your paint program for additions, in the same way Weekly World Inquirer Magazine inserted the space aliens in the coffee bar. Typically, 2D computer graphics use
