Text of the report presented at the PAM Roundtable Session,
SLA Annual Conference, June 1999
By Christina Louis, Assistant Librarian, Indian Institute of Astronomy
PAM's International Relations Committee realised that communication between members of PAM was very productive and decided to take up the development of as Asia - Pacific regional forum for PAM and Computer Science Libraries. During the past two years the International Relations Committee has been working with the Australian Libraries and Information Association in the formation of PAM - APF as an extension to PAM.
Countries covered in the Asia / Pacific Region:
Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, New Zealand,
Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam Aims of the Project : Special attention has been placed on fostering information exchange amongst colleagues and informing the publishers of technological weaknesses in the developing world, especially in the Asia - Pacific Region.
Activities of PAM - APF :
An announcement was made on the 13th November 1998, of the establishement PAM - APF, since then, the committee has accomplished five tasks;

Circulation The Mathematics Library, consisting of the Frankel and Goldenberg Libraries, is one of five regional (faculty) libraries at the Weizmann Institute. It is located in the Zyskind Building, opposite San Martin and the Technical Department. The book collection is located in the 3-floor building (Frankel Mathematics Library). On the Ground Floor is the librarian's office, the New Books shelf, Permanent Reserve books, which consist of heavily used material located in locked bookcases, and Course Reserve books, also in locked bookcases located below the windows (consult the librarian for their use). Other special collections on the Ground Floor include Mathematical Tables, Reference Books, Collected Works , and the continuation of "Older Journals" from the first floor. The First Floor (one floor above the Ground Floor), primarily devoted to the area of Computer Science , includes books, journals, and some old technical reports in that field. Older journals are also kept here.

    About the Collection
    This is a collection of bibliographies of scientific literature in computer science from various sources, covering most aspects of computer science. The bibliographies are updated weekly from their original locations such that you'll always find the most recent versions here. The collection currently contains more than 3 millions of references (mostly to journal articles, conference papers and technical reports), clustered in about 1500 bibliographies, and consists of more than 2.3 GBytes (530MB gzipped) of BibTeX entries. More than 600 000 references contain crossreferences to citing or cited publications. More than 1 million of references contain URLs to an online version of the paper. Abstracts are available for more than 800 000 entries. There are more than 2000 links to other sites carrying bibliographic information. For more information on the contents of this collection have a look at the bibliographic statistics

    and the Departments We Support
    Updated! Numbers of Papers from Six Big 10 Mathematics Departments, 1990-2007 The following is an updated version of the chart from earlier this week. Here we have added the MathSciNet category of Complex Variables, and we've merged all of Topology into one category. In the previous chart, "General Topology" was not the best category for the current work being done by the department.
    Click on chart for a larger version. [Data from MathSciNet, chart created by Khaled Noubani, 5/25/07] We recently took a cue from Linda Yamamoto (Stanford) comparing math output from various universities. These five were compared with Indiana- the selection of which Big 10 schools to include was somewhat random...we tried to look at departments of similar size.
    IU leads the pack in General Topology, Partial Differential Equations, and Summability Theory for the past 17 years ...not so many papers from IU on K-Theory or Number Theory. We also seem to be publishing quite a bit in Statistical Mechanics, and Probability, second only to Wisconsin for both subject areas.
