The Next Steps By BJ Lawson , on Nov 3, 2010 Thank you all again for your extremely generous outpouring of support and effort during the course of this campaign. Thank you again for your prayers, your financial support, and pouring your hearts and souls into this campaign. It's because of people like you that America is moving in a better direction. Real change takes time, but we are on the right side of history.
In my previous email I broke down the numbers and summarized our campaign. But restoring America doesn't end when the results rolled in.
Last night, people asked me why I seemed so optimistic for the future.
How could I not be?
This morning, I woke up with incredible energy and optimism for the future, because we are starting something that will change the course of this country forever.
We did our part to awaken a national grassroots effort that shocked the establishment and led to incumbents falling who had voted against our core American values. It wasn't as much

    Understanding Call Numbers
    Reading
To be able to efficiently read Library of Congress (LC) call numbers is quite a skill. This tutorial was created to help library users uncover the mysteries of call number reading. Let's start with a sample call number:
Call numbers can begin with one, two, or three letters.
    • The first letter of a call number represents one of the 21 major divisions of the LC System. In the example, the subject "Q" is Science.
    • The second letter "E" represents a subdivision of the sciences, Geology. All books in the QE's are primarily about Geology.
      • Books in categories E, United States History, and F, Local U.S. History and American History, do not have a second letter (exception: in Canada, FC is used for Canadian history).
      • Books about Law, K's, can have three letters, such as KFH, Law of Hawaii. Some areas of history (D) also have three-letter call numbers.
    • Most other subject areas will have call numbers beginning with one or two letters.

Although it is in the poorest section of what is generally regarded as inner-city Washington—the area east of the Anacostia River it is very likely the most economically diverse, and most suburban, neighborhood in that section of the city. Congress Heights, in fact, contains the largest commercial district in Washington's Ward 8, along Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X Avenues. Congress Heights is bounded by Mississippi Avenue SE to the southeast, Wheeler Road SE to the east, Alabama Avenue SE to the north, and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and South Capitol Street to the northwest. It is served by the Congress Heights station on the Green Line of the Washington Metro . Most residents live in garden apartments, but there are also older single-family bungalows. Frank W. Ballou High School and Hart Middle School serve the neighborhood.

WASHINGTON BLADE: Homeless gay teen survives streets, eyes college
Email This BlogThis! Share to Twitter ... 0 Comments What a truly remarkable and inspiring story of a local student.
Go HERE to read the full story.
    Excerpt:
But the strapping, six-foot-tall 18-year-old, who came out as gay at age 16, says he spent most of the past year hiding a part of his life that became far more difficult to deal with than his sexual orientation.
With some financial support from his grandmother, he managed to get through his junior and part of his senior year at Ballou while hiding the fact that he lived a secret life as a homeless person. He stayed most of the time in a debris-strewn abandoned apartment building a few blocks from his school with no electricity or running water.
In what school officials and LGBT homeless youth advocate Earline Budd call an extraordinary story, Swenson told the Blade how he maintained a positive outlook and an overarching desire to succeed at school under the most trying circumstances.
