    Founders of Hartford
The following list is based on the names that were engraved on the original Founders Monument in the Ancient Burying Ground, also sometimes referred to at the "Old" or "Center" Cemetery. The cemetery is located at the rear of the First Congregational ("Center") Church at the corner of Main and Gold Streets in Hartford. The original brownstone Monument erected in 1837 was replaced by one of pink Connecticut granite in 1986, and the names on the new monument differ slightly from the list shown here. Those descended from an ancestor who settled in Hartford before February 1640, as evidenced by the Original Distribution of the Lands may be eligible for membership in the Society of the Descendants of the Founders of Hartford Jeremy Adams

    2010 Annual Friends Conference
On Saturday November 6, 2010, The Friends of Connecticut Libraries will hold their Annual Conference with a program that focuses on membership. The conference will be held at Constitution Room, Memorial Hall at Central CT. State University in New Britain, CT. This year’s program expands on Dr. Tim Cole’s 2009 presentation, ”Welcoming the Next Generation of Friends” with four presentations focused on recruiting and retaining members. Two presentations will be in morning starting shortly after 9:00 a.m. and two in the afternoon following a buffet lunch. Last year, the majority of comments asked for more informal time to chat with other Friends groups so we have added a one hour lunch break to help meet that request. the cost is $20 for a member of a FOCL member group and $30 for non-members. We would like you to register by October 22, 2010. Last year’s conference was oversubscribed and we had to turn Friends away. We have much larger room this year and can hold nearly 200 Friends. Seating will be on a first come, first basis. There will be no registration at the door.
