Raymond Neag The Neag School of Education is named after Raymond Neag, a successful entrepreneur, philanthropist and UConn alum whose generous support is experienced daily by our faculty, staff, and students. His donation of $1.5 million in 1996 endowed a chair in the gifted and talented program. In 1999, his gift of $21 million to the School of Education was, at the time, the largest ever given to a school or college of education in the country.
The University of Connecticut's Neag School of Education is not only the #1 public graduate school of education in the Northeast and the East Coast, it is ranked the 16th best public graduate school of education in the U.S. In its annual review of the best graduate schools in the country

  • Research Facilities
The Institute of Materials Science has occupied an approximately 80,000 sq. ft. building on North Eagleville Road since it was completed in 1970. In 2001, IMS was expanded with a 15,000 sq. ft. addition. Approximately 40,000 sq. ft. are in use as advanced materials research laboratories. IMS houses approximately $20 million in research facilities, based on replacement value. General purpose laboratories, which are accessible to all IMS members, contain common instrumentation for materials characterization such as electron microscopy, mechanical testing, x-ray diffraction, surface analysis, rheology, thermal analysis and magnetic resonance. Most of these laboratories have direct assigned staff support. Special purpose laboratories with specialized research instrumentation are also fully available to IMS members after they receive the appropriate training. Additional research support facilities include an electronics shop and an instrument and machine shop. The extensive IMS facilities are operated as a research service facility. User fees that apply to the instrumentation users are determined under strict federal guidelines. IMS laboratories are operated with strict safety guidelines working closely with the University's health and safety offices. Safety is a primary concern in IMS and it has a safety officer to constantly monitor, update and train IMS faculty, students and staff to promote safe practices that are known and observed. A required IMS safety exam must be taken before access is granted. (Safety manual and access form below).
