Conures can be found in most of South and Central America. Some species are also well represented in the West Indies, as well as parts of Mexico. In the wild conures are friendly, peaceful birds and seldom fight with each other. They live together in groups of twenty or more birds, even during the mating season, and feed on various seeds, fruits, and insects. The Many Types There are five genera of conures. A brief description of each follows:
Genus Aratinga This is by far one of the most popular genus of conures. There is some disagreement regarding the actual number of species, but the number seems to be between 15 and 21. The scientific name

The Sun Conure can be found in most of South and Central America. Some species are also well represented in the West Indies, as well as parts of Mexico. In the wild sun conures are friendly, peaceful birds and seldom fight with each other. They live together in groups of twenty or more birds, even during the mating season, and feed on various seeds, fruits, and insects. A baby Sun Conure will be a mix of dark green, yellow and orange colors. Over a period of about 6-8 months, the darker green feathers will be molted out and replaced by brilliant yellow ones on the chest, head and back. Sun Conures are capable of learning to talk, although their range is limited and their voices are squeaky and birdlike. They like to imitate amusing sounds (microwave beeps, etc.). They really enjoy human attention, especially if there is no other bird around for them to groom and play with. Screeching is normal for most parrots. It's how they say hi to each other and how they announce that they're happy. So in the morning and the evening, your sun conure will say "I'm here! I'm here! I'm here!" for ten minutes to half an hour. Your sun conure will also greet you when you have been away by screeching hello. And when your sun conure is in his cage, happily hanging by one foot while he tries to rip the clapper out of a bell, he'll screech because he is happy. So there are a lot of normal reasons for a parrot to screech, and sun conures tend to be especially noisy members of the family.

The term ' Conure ' is one often used in bird breeding, but it is not a scientific designation. It refers to a loosely defined group of parrot-like birds. Often described as large Parakeets, Conures are distinguished by their long tails and small beaks. Though they come in a variety of colors, they are usually green and red. Two of the more popular pet breeds are the Sun Conure and the Jeday Conure . The Sun Conure hails from South America and measures up at a distinguished 11 to 12 inches in length. They have green plumage with a striking red, yellow, and orange coloring on their backs, abdomen and head. These markings become more predominant as the bird gets older. The Jeday is greener than the Sun Conure , and its color is usually limited to the head and abdomen. A third popular breed, the Sunday

MILLETS/CANARY is fed in a separate bowl I feed a mixed millet mix one month and a good budgie mix the next. MILLET SPRAYS are fed at least once a week 2 or 3 per pair. Everyday when they have babies or fledged babies . Soaked millet sprays are also relished by all Conures, I feed these ad lib time permitting.Soaked sprays are also very beneficial when breeding and are relished by all my birds.. WATER is changed daily it can be a problem as they have a habit of bathing in it the moment you change it, however the pleasure and condition they get from bathing outweighs the extra work.

    Origin:
Northeastern South America, from Brazil to Venezuela.
    Size:
Medium, at about 12 inches in length from the beak to the end of the tail.
    Average Lifespan:

    Temperment:
Given adequate attention, the Sun Conures are loving little birds that are easy to train and thrive on their owners' companionship. As with other bird species, owners should make sure to provide safe areas for the Sun Conure to explore and investigate. Conures are not shy birds and will let you know if their needs are not being met. Their loud, shrill call is a tool that they use to bring attention to important situations, and many have been known to become excellent "watch dogs."
    Colors:
At maturity, a Sun Conure sports a rainbow of brilliant yellow, red, orange, green, and blue. Juvenile Sun Conures, as a natural defense mechanism, are not nearly as colorful as adults. The first feathers are olive green in color, changing to a mixture of yellowish-orange at around 6 months of age. Full color plumage can be observed at approximately one year of age. Sun Conures also have black beaks and feet and characteristic white patches around each eye.

The Green Cheek conure is one of my eternal favorites. It has olive green body and wings and a maroon tail. In natural habitats, the green cheek conure is found mainly in Brazil, Guyana and Venezuela. It is smaller than cockatiels. It feeds on vet-recommended pellet diet that includes a little seed, and a choice of fruits and vegetables. Green Cheek conure needs extra fat in its diet because it is so active and has oil producing glands, so a few nuts and sunflower seed can be beneficial. It is also highly energetic. Wild Conures are peace-loving birds and tend to stay in groups. Training a conure is a challenging job. Expert training is the fundamental phase of owning a Conure. It requires great dexterity and patience. Repeated praising and treats would make them adapt to the training easily. Wild Conures live on nuts, seeds, fruits, berries, flowers insects grains and so on. Pet Conures eat seed mixtures along with fruits, greens, mealworms, etc. A proportionate diet entails the major part of Conure care. Blue Crown Conure The natural habitat is the open forests of Columbia, Venezuela and Brazil. It is also found in the savannahs. It is the most popular species of conure in aviculture. The Blue Crown Conure is one of the most intelligent birds among Conures. It is usually green in color. They are mostly found in Venezuela, Columbia and Brazil. Usually, a Blue Crown Conure is well-suited for human companionship. With good training they can be quite docile, however it is a skillful job.

Some conures may be considered short-tempered, and their noise level can be irritating. The less common Dusky and Green-cheeked Conures are somewhat quieter than the more familiar Jenday, Sun, Mitred or Half-moon Conures. Conures generally have a cavalier attitude about investigating anything new in their environment; thus, they often suffer from injuries. These birds are generally poor talkers, but they can be very vocal in the early morning and late afternoon. What do Conures do all day? Conures are playful and easily amused with simple toys. They often lay on their backs and chew at their toys or may play hide and seek with a towel or brown bag in their enclosure. Because they love to chew, any toys must be free of toxic metals, hooks, sharp objects or small, easily consumed components. Providing chew toys or fresh cut branches from nontoxic, pesticide free trees is recommended for conures. Check with your veterinarian for recommendations on locally available safe trees.
