Crime Prevention - General Tips
Three factors must be present for a crime to occur: desire, ability and opportunity. YOU can have a significant impact on the last one, OPPORTUNITY, and can significantly reduce crime by taking simple crime prevention steps.
At Home
  • Use a door viewer before opening your door. Always demand identification from strangers (even repair or sales persons). Always lock up your home before leaving. Don't hide your house keys outdoors anywhere. Use interior and exterior lighting at all times. Have keys ready and in your hand for immediate use when you return home.

Crime prevention - general information
Reducing crime and the fear of crime transforms the quality of life for our residents. Crime affects everyone, determining how people view their homes and neighbourhoods and affecting the choices made in daily life. Crime has stigmatised Lambeth, affecting our reputation and limiting our potential to attract investment and take advantage of the opportutnites of the borough's central London location. Unfortunately crime remains high. Actions and efforts in crime prevention need to be sustained.
Police stations in Lambeth
Policing in Lambeth is the responsibility of the Metropolitan Police . Always call 999 in an emergency, or you can call or visit the borough's police stations direct.

Rutgers is a leader in studying crime prevention - in theory and practice.
We work with small businesses in Newark and the rest of northern New Jersey to find workable crime prevention measures that are practical and inexpensive, and geared toward individual businesses.
Our goal is to reduce crime using simple and low-cost or no-cost methods. This website is one of the ways we let business people know about what has worked before, and to hear from them about their own experiences with crime and crime prevention.
Do you have any comments about anything you've seen on this website? Is there a topic you would like us to include? Have we left out important information? Is something we've said just wrong? We need feedback from people who know best what works and what doesn't work for businesses. So please let us know!

Police Dep CRIME PREVENTION Ask Lenexa Here are general tips for staying safe in a variety of situations, including walking, jogging, shopping, or riding elevators: Stay alert at all times and tuned in to your surroundings, wherever you are. The wearing of headphones while walking or jogging can reduce your level of alertness. Plan your route in advance, and vary your routes whenever possible. Get to know the neighborhoods and neighbors where you live and work. Find out what stores and restaurants are open late and where police and fire stations are located. When walking or jogging, use busy streets, and avoid shortcuts through deserted parks, vacant lots, and unlit passages. At night, walk or jog only on streets with plenty of light and traffic, and avoid walking alone if possible. Walk on the part of the sidewalk close to the street and away from shrubbery, trees, or doorways. On less busy streets at night, it is sometimes safer to walk in the street rather than on the sidewalk. * Stand tall and walk confidently. Don't make it obvious if you are in unfamiliar territory. Trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable in a place or situation, leave right away and get help if necessary.

    Crime prevention
Crime in Lambeth is falling. Increased policing and action by the council, voluntary agencies and local communities are making a real difference. There is now a clear and sustained downward trend in street crime, burglaries, drug offences and motor vehicle crimes.
But crime remains high. The intensity of action and effort needs to be sustained.
    Anti-social behaviour
Anti-social behaviour is any intimidating or threatening activity that scares you or causes distress to you or your neighbourhood. It can impact on your quality of life and you do not have to tolerate it. You have a right to live in a safe and secure community.
    Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)
CCTV is just one of the tools and measures that Lambeth and our partners are using to tackle crime and grime in the borough. Crime reduction and community safety activities are also delivered through partnership working alongside CCTV.
