VIDSYS AND GENERAL DYNAMICS PARTNER TO OFFER CRIME PREVENTION AND RESPONSE SYSTEM
Crime Prevention and Response Solution Integrates Physical Security Information Management with Video and Acoustic Surveillance for a Complete View of Unfolding Emergencies in Real Time Vienna, Va. - October 1, 2009 ─ VidSys the leading provider of Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) software that allows organizations to resolve business and security situations in real time, today announced its strategic partnership with General Dynamics Information Technology , a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a trusted systems integrator for more than 50 years. General Dynamics has developed a Crime Prevention and Response (CPR) System, designed to help diminish criminal presence for safer communities, by leveraging the VidSys PSIM software that creates a common operating picture to verify, analyze, resolve and track unfolding situations. "Leveraging advanced technology available today, we created the CPR System to help cities reduce gun-related crime, speed up response times and empower first responders to approach a situation with greater actionable intelligence, including real-time detection, accurate location and the number of rounds fired," said Peter Howard, senior director of network solutions, General Dynamics Information Technology. "The VidSys PSIM Software plays a crucial role within the CPRallowing for quick, seamless integration of physical security assets including CAD systems, creating a common operating picture that enhances real-time awareness and incident management, and neutralizing differences between systems to allow for cross-agency collaboration and incident resolution."

At Fax Net 1, our goal is simple:  to reduce crime in neighborhoods through innovative, successful crime prevention programs designed and approved by local and national law enforcement.
With a communications network that is targeted and far reaching, Fax Net 1 is instrumental in alerting those most vulnerable to potential criminal activity BEFORE it happens to them.  Law enforcement sends Fax Net 1 crime alert information for a specific geographical area or group of citizens; Fax Net 1 distributes that information (via fax) to specific businesses and organizations who are part of the Fax Net 1 network.
Through our unique, real-time approach, Fax Net 1 distributes critical crime alerts to OVER ONE MILLION fax numbers (and nearly that many email addresses) per year, and assists law enforcement in locating and apprehending an average of one suspect every nine days.  And that means safer communities for everyone.

3. Never admit on the telephone or at the door that you are alone.
4. It is risky to accept a ride home from someone you have just met.

6. If you have been a victim of sexual assault, call police immediately. Do not bathe or change clothes or you may destroy evidence.
Robbery
1. Avoid carrying valuable items or large amounts of money.
2. Always think ahead. For example, when traveling at night, have your keys ready to enter the house or to start the car.
3. If you are confronted by a robber, the best advice is to cooperate. 4. If you resist, there is a greater chance that you may be hurt. Bank Machines 1. When using an automatic bank teller, always be watchful of any suspicious people around you. 2. The chances of being robbed at night are much greater, especially if you are alone.

On the path to crime prevention Written by SUZANNE MARINO Wednesday, 11 August 2010 09:12 View Comments City Councilman Jimmy Martinez enjoys National Night Out in Northfield with his 7-year-old daughter Julia. Many came out to make Northfield's National Night Out such a success Tuesday, Aug. 3 in Northfield. Sgt. Shannon Murphy helps guide 12-year-old Jason Rodman of Northfield as he drives through a maze of traffic cones while wearing the “drunk goggles” that simulate the level of impairment a driver with a .08 blood alcohol level would experience as part of National Night Out in Northfield on Tuesday, Aug. 3. Northfield Historical Society President Roy Clark and museum curator Joyce Pullan were busy spreading information about Northfield’s colorful past at the National Night Out celebration.

Community Oriented Policing

Crime and the Built Environment / Streets

Powerpoint presentations (in html format) "When people started protecting themselves as individuals rather than as a community, the battle was lost." Community Oriented Policing (COP) is the public safety counterpart of Neighborhood Planning. In COP, the police and community work together to identify, prioritize, and solve public safety problems including crime, drugs, fear of crime, social and physical disorder, and neighborhood decay. The beat officer under COP almost becomes like a neighborhood planner and a government ombudsman. The neighborhood built environment and street design impacts crime and disorder. The underlying focus, again, is building social capital. Readings:
Robert J. Sampson, "Crime and Public Safety: Insights from Community Level Perspectives on Social Capital", in Susan Saegert, J. Phillip Thompson, and Mark R. Warren, Social Capital and Poor Communities
