Neighborhood Watch
Neighborhood Watch is one of the most effective crime prevention programs in the country, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer.
Focusing on organization, communication and education, Neighborhood Watch participants look out for one another - without being nosey or obtrusive. They are observant of unusual activity and report suspicious activity. Participants are never asked to act in lieu of the police or put themselves in dangerous situations. FBI statistics show that a subdivision with an active Neighborhood Watch is 43% less likely to become a target of criminal activity.

. If you prefer to have the same information mailed to you, please contact the Tucson Police Department Neighborhood Watch coordinator in your area Then talk to the neighbors on your street, block, or cul-de-sac. You should decide on a date(s) when your group will hold its first meeting. Neighborhood Watch meetings are held on weeknights at around 6:30 p.m., as a rule. Then contact the Tucson Police Department Neighborhood Watch coordinator in your area to schedule your meeting with a patrol officer. Please plan to schedule your meeting four to six weeks in advance. The typical first meeting of a Neighborhood Watch group will include discussion of Neighborhood Watch and Home Security. To qualify for the installation of a Neighborhood Watch sign on your block or street, at least half (50%) of the households must attend the meeting and complete the recommended home security measures. A "block map," which includes at least the names and addresses of each member, should be made and distributed to each member. This map should be kept in a safe place near the telephone to aid in reporting suspicious activities to police. To maintain status as an active Neighborhood Watch group, the group must have a meeting at least once a year with a member of the Tucson Police Department. Of course, Neighborhood Watch groups are encouraged to get together as often as they wish for block parties, BBQs, neighborhood cleanups, etc.

Crime Prevention Neighborhood Watch Neighborhood Watch is a law enforcement program that enlists the active participation of citizens in crime prevention. Simply put, Neighborhood Watch involves residents watching out for one another. That begins with getting to know each other, otherwise how can you tell a neighbor from a stranger? The program requires that a block captain keep a list of those residents in the neighborhood who are willing to participate in the program and receive information on calls for service, crime prevention ideas, and how to report suspicious activity as it occurs. The Apple Valley Neighborhood Watch program provides an effective format to help support your efforts to maintain a crime free neighborhood and community by uniting residents who are willing to participate by keeping a "watch" on each other's homes and property.

Neighborhood Watch
What is a neighborhood watch?
"In cities around the country, neighbors for three decades have banded together to create these "watch" programs. They understand that the active participation of neighborhood residents is a critical element in community safety - not through vigilantism, but simply through a willingness to look out for suspicious activity in their neighborhood, and report that activity to the police and to each other. In doing so, residents take a major step toward reclaiming high-crime neighborhoods, as well as making people in all areas of a city or town feel more secure and less fearful." (US Dept of Justice) This program is for watching, not for doing. We do not want you to take risks or to take the law into your own hands. If you see something suspicious - report that activity to the police. Let the police handle it. Just knowing that people are watching can reduce the risk of burglary and other crime activity in participating neighbors. Online Games

    • A few concerned residents, a community organization, or a law enforcement agency can spearhead the effort to organize a Neighborhood Watch. You can form a Neighborhood Watch group around any geographical unit: a block, apartment building, park, business area, housing complex, office or marina. Watch groups are not vigilantes. They are extra eyes and ears for reporting crimes and helping neighbors.

Neighborhood Watch Meeting - Thursday, Nov. 12th
Deputy Negron from Orange County Sheriff's Department will be with us on Thursday, November 12th, at 7 PM in the Clubhouse.
Make sure you let your neighbors know about the meeting next Thursday night. I have posted notices on the mail box for those who have not yet signed up and aren't on the email list. We want to get as many people involved as possible. Let's shoot for a great turnout. I spoke with Deputy Negron on the phone today. He drove though our neighborhood around 11:00 this morning to check things out. He told me that he counted 12 GPS's that he saw visibly mounted on the dash of various cars . He said that this is an invitation for more break in's. Please, if you see that your neighbors have things in their cars that are easy targets, ask them if they would bring them inside. Take care and see you next Thursday at the clubhouse. J. Baumann

Neighborhood Watch Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program combining the efforts of residents and local law enforcement representatives. Officers of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have met with residents regarding Neighborhood Watch in nearly every residential area of the county. Crime prevention starts at home. Neighborhood Watch is about prevention, detection, and reporting of crimes and suspicious activity. It is based on neighbors watching each other’s property as well as public property, and reporting occurrences or persons that appear suspicious. It opens the lines of communication between county residents and the Sheriff’s Office. For more information on the Neighborhood Watch program please contact our Public Affairs Officer at 775-782-9931.

Neighborhood/Business Watch Program Last updated 2/18/2008 The primary goal of Neighborhood Watch is to encourage awareness of who lives in a given neighborhood, where they can be reached in case of an emergency, what to do if confronted with an emergency, and how to reduce the chances of crime occurring in the neighborhood. Neighbors working together through this program can combat crime in their area in the most effective way-before it starts. OBJECTIVES OF NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH:
  • Maintain a cooperative system of surveillance over property, children, playgrounds, etc. Report all suspicious activity, persons, or crimes in progress to the police accurately and immediately. St. Bernard citizens are urged to call 242-2727 or call on our anonymous crime tip line at 860-7233.
