4.May.2006 11.02am Six weeks away from graduation, and I am redoing yet another résumé. I have really focused a lot on typography through my studies, and am planning on furthering my education into grad school. Essentially, I do need this to look good, and be typeset well. Below are the specifications and the details about the design. Size= 7.25 x 10.25
Typeface Indetification-
Name and Footer= Meridien Roman
All other= Kepler My main concerns are:
1) That the hierarchy is clear, easy to follow, and understandable.
2) It has been brought to my attention that I have used a category to seperate my "Technical Qualifications", where as I have not included categories for "Education" and "Experience" for it would ruin my hierarchy. It is my opinion that these two categories are not needed, as the first two things on a résumé are typically your education and your previous experience. The question of flow is really the one posed, as some seem to feel that this omission causes an interruption.
3) I have utilized small caps in the sentence fragements where necessary, however, the term "OSX" baffles me. Should this be set in standard magiscules, or do they cause an interruption in the typography?

I'm currently posting this from my iPhone so am unable to upload the photos directly. They are however on my dA - anghel132.deviantart.com

I would like your comments on anything and everything but mostly composition and colour.
I comp skills fail hard IMHO so any advice will be taken and taken seriously. Also suggestions on shooting techniques or equipment or configurations in differnt locations visible in the photos would be greatly appreciated! ByeByeBeautiful 04-14-2010, 10:25 AM Linking is certainly allowed! ^_^
Why don't you pick specific photos you'd like critiqued, and then we can get started? It's easier to do that then look over entire galleries. 04-14-2010, 05:45 PM Hi hi :)
If you'd be so kind as to critique those ones? ByeByeBeautiful 04-15-2010, 02:15 PM Sure.
These are all interesting shots. They're bright and colorful, so you're off to a good start!
Photo 1 - Good idea, but needs some tweaking. Putting your subject so close to the bottom makes it feel like she's about to slide out of the photo!

To me, it just needs a tighter crop. The space above and the right of this little guy - while nicely blurred - doesn't add to the shot.
      My 2 cents.

I'm a newbie to digital SLR- I just switched from 35mm film and got a Canon 30D. I'm having a lot of fun, and trying to learn Photoshop. I would love some critiques on my photos and my post-processing/cropping decisions. I will post some shots I took of a heron this morning, the first will be the unprocessed and the second will be processed as follows: 1. cropped, 2. darkness/brightness adjusted with histogram, 3. sharpness adjusted with unsharp mask. Shots were taken with 30D with EF 70-300 IS USM lens, ISO 100, shot in jpeg.
Please don't worry about hurting my feelings. I'm starting to get more serious about photography and want to elevate my pictures from snapshots to real photography.

What Our Readers Say Artists group open to all By Patty Talahongva Some Valley residents draw and create art every day and now members of the Phoenix Artists Guild (PAG) want to draw the attention of other artists in hopes of increasing its membership. For the past 30 years, members have met each month to share their work, learn how to improve their art and offer fellowship to like-minded artists. Yearly dues are $35 for artist and $50 for folks who want to be Patrons and support the group. This is a new category the group recently instituted and is just now starting to promote. Membership benefits include discounts at art stores that are listed on the PAG Web site (www.phoenixartists guild. org), a monthly newsletter that is both mailed and posted online, and several art shows a year. There are shows scheduled for July 20-Aug. 28 at the Glendale Senior Center (59th Avenue and Brown), and the Kerr Cultural Center in Scottsdale in January 2010 (6110 N. Scottsdale Road). PAG has offered this rotating exhibit for two years and Frye estimates that members have exhibited about 45 pieces of art.

Rafe Esquith: A Brief Critique
November 19, 2009 by Apparently, Esquith relates a story about bringing the Hobart Shakespeareans to the Empire State Building, and he leaves the group alone to do some task. He has cultivated politeness in his students, so they stand off to the side being well-behaved when they are approached by the ticket-taker who questions the children about their quietness and asks them what kinds of video games they like to play and the like. One of the students responds that they are happy to do what they do, and after all, that person was only a ticket-taker, and they did not want to end up like that. Did anyone else who attend take issue with this anecdote? Posted in 321 Response Comments RSS

I wanted to capture the low tide pools of water, and how busy seagulls were, and sailboats in the background. I would like to redo it some day, I know it's amateur.
From the Painting Guide: If it's amateur, then I don't know how to classify some paintings I've seen for sale in art galleries! While you may consider the result amateur, the final result isn't the sole objective of a painting. This may seem illogical, but consider how much fun you had painting it. Consider what you learned painting it, and how it's challenged you to think about what you might do differently if you did it again. These are all very valuable in the lifelong journey of painting.
Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
    Composition:
I like the overall feel to the painting, the muted and limited number of colors. What I think is less successful is the composition as the band of sand going right across the composition cuts the foreground off from the back. This is further emphasised by the dark band of land in the distance. Although it gets narrower, I would have angled it slightly upward and ended it further from the right-hand edge. This would encourage the viewer's eye up the composition.

    http://gimby.net/
Although I am primarily a spontaneous improvisational painter my paintings frequently begin with a realistic drawing to establish the basic content and composition.
This drawing is then loosely executed in acrylic paint to establish basic large shapes and further clarify the composition. Then the real fun begins. Layers of color and design details are intuitively added in response to the painting as it seems to develop a life of it's own. Personally carved stamps, stencils as well as found objects are used to create additional texture and interest.
The final steps are to critique composition and design details and when appropriate, apply a varnish that incorporates a system of Ultraviolet filters and Light Stabilizers for protection from UV damage.

jesshmusic 03-14-2005, 01:13 PM Here is my idea. I have presented it in a few other posts, but it is coming together better in my mind now. In addition to one on one composition lessons I intend to teach once the applications get organized, I was think of having a continually running thread that was an Assignment and Critique Composition Seminar. Every week I would present the lesson and assignment. Everyone who wanted to take part could submit an assignment for critique by me.
To simplify things, there would be a few prerequisites, that are not binding.
1.... It would be wise to be able to read music.
2.... Some basic music theory knowledge would make the course easier. The student should at least know intervals, scales, and chords.
3.... Optional.... It would be best to turn in assignments in the Finale format. Finale has a program called Notepad on their site that is free. If you work in Sibelius or Overture, a pdf or screenshots of the score would suffice. If this is not possible (or too much trouble), a mid file can be imported into Finale.
    Possible Syllabus:
Each Composition Seminar will be in 6 parts.
