Index Topic Difference between knitting/crocheting By titancia On I've recently begun learning how to crochet, and I've been lucky enough to get most of my crochet hooks at a local thrift store for 25 cents apeice. It's kinda hard to find them, though, because I have to look through tons and tons of knitting needles to get to them.
Which brings me to my question.
Is there really a major difference between knitting and crocheting? Which one's easier? I'm thinking I'd like to try knitting, because knitting needles are in such abundance at this store, but I don't think my mom knows how. (She's the one who's teaching me to crochet). Does anyone have any good learn-to-knit sites they know of? Thankies!

i only crochet, but want to learn knitting at some point. the main difference i see is that crochet generally uses more yarn than knitting so if i want to do something light and with expensive yarn, i probably should knit it.
By SmudgyCat On crochet is much easier for me to do. knitting just seems very complex...keep track of this stich on this side, then reverse them when you get all the stitches on the other needle.

2004.1.3 KNITTING
A Happy New Year!
And I'm knitting and knitting this winter holidays.
Traditionally, we don't work during New Year holidays. I mean work; no working, no cooking, no washing, no cleaning, nothing. That's why we prepare osechi ryohri , special dishes for New Year beforehand.
In this case, I shouldn't have hold my knitting needles.
But, you know, I'm knitting for my pleasure and I can hardly knitting till I feel satisfied so I just don't care about it.
This Whitby is well-considered; you don't have to count knitted rows. The cable pattern tells you where you are. It also tells you when you use cable needles. The centre part of this pattern is kind of a Guernsey pattern and you go cable stitching when you finish one round of this Guernsey pattern.
I'm thinking of knitting another pair of socks with cable patterns.
My New Year Resolution for last year was to become a socknitter. I think I can say, "I'm a socknitter" now. I've knitted seven socks last year; that's not a lot, but that's not few either. And recently, I'm always working on one or two sock-knitting. And this year, my New Year Resolution is to keep on being a socknitter. I'd like to try cotton yarns to knit my socks this year.

As mentioned here earlier , knitting just feels good; but it also has all kinds of interestingly technical variations: Aran cables, lace knitting, fairisle, plus purely knitterly jollifications like knitting two socks simultaneously When I was eleven or twelve, and liked to sketch trees, trunk and branch and twig, I decided that all trees were somehow the same. It was as though there were a single underlying form to them, and the apparent differences of this or that species were the playing-out of a small set of rules laid upon that form in different combinations and proportions: vertical or horizontal, lax or rigid, rough or smooth, straight or curving or kinked, having greater or lesser distance between instances of new branching. I was delighted years later to hear that some branch of mathematics had decided that all trees were the same tree modified by variations on a small set of rules. And I was nonplussed years later to run into
