Leigh Moscowitz
My life at CofC
About Me Leigh Moscowitz joined the faculty in the Department of Communication in 2008 having recently completed her Ph.D. from Indiana University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication . She teaches classes in Mass Media in the Digital Age (Comm 214), which is a gateway course for media studies, as well as a special topics course, Gender in Media (Comm 295). At the graduate level, she teaches a course in Gender, Race, Class and Media (Comm 580), which examines how our media culture contributes to the categorization of our gendered identities, and in particular how they intersect with other social categories such as race, class, sexuality and nationality. In 2009, Dr. Moscowitz won the outstanding teaching award in the department awarded by student leaders from PRSSA and Lambda Pi Eta . She also enjoys directing several independent studies that engage in fascinating research questions concerning the media industries. Dr. Moscowitz’s courses draw directly from her research, in which she examines the cultural production of news and the politics of media representation.
