Overview
The Schenck School has always been committed to teacher training and requires its in-house teachers to take a year-long training class in the Orton-Gillingham Approach. The teacher-training program was inaugurated many years ago by former School Director, Marge Tillman, to formally teach the highly successful teaching method. In the fall of 2001, the School began to provide that same level of training to tutors and teachers. Educators in the metro Atlanta area and nationally have participated in this exceptional program. Students may attend classes on campus or during the summer months, administrators of the Teacher Training classes travel to schools for group classes. The School strongly encourages those in Teacher Training class to begin tutoring students upon completion of the class. It is only through working one-on-one with students that the material the teachers have been exposed to is truly learned. Observations and mentoring are a critical component of the program. The Schenck School offers a second Teacher Training course for an expansion of skills. 282 Mt. Paran Road NW
