      Czech Republic History
The part of the Czech Republic and Austria where we cycle has historically been known as Moravia. This region was beyond the borders of the Roman Empire, so while we know the names of some of the tribes that lived there during ancient times (ie. Boii, Quadi), no true history was written of the peoples of this region. The Slavs arrived in the 6th century, again without much written fanfare. Following the Velvet Revolution, Czechoslovakia adopted a democratic form of government and reopened the Iron Curtain border with Germany and Austria. In 1993 the arranged marriage between the Czechs and Slovaks ended peacefully as both peoples agreed to partition the country into its respective ethnic zones. The last two decades have seen the Czech Republic turn from communism to capitalism and join both the EU and NATO all while experiencing a rapid growth in tourism.

    History
Czechoslovakia was established in 1918 as a national state of the Czechs and Slovaks. Although these two peoples were closely related, they had undergone different historical experiences. Despite their separate strands of development, both Czechs and Slovaks struggled against a powerful neighbor that threatened their very existence. The unity of the Czech and Slovak people in the Great Moravian Empire was brief. From the beginning of the tenth century and for almost a millennium, the two peoples followed separate courses. Culture Prague was a major European cultural center prior to the Communist era, and Czech intellectuals and artists have made numerous and significant contributions to art, literature, and music.

Czech Republic History in the Period of National Revival
June 30, 2006 By Eternal Traveler The 19th century is considered to be a period of national revival across Central Europe, including Czech and Slovak Nations. Since the Bohemian nobility were in large extent German or German speaking, the first generation intelligentsia of peasant origin, supported by only a few nobles, led the Czech national revival. In additional, the 19th century is also characterized by the Industrial Revolution, including the building of factories and urbanization. In 1791, a faculty of Czech language (considered to be a peasant language) and literature was established at Charles University. At the same time, leaders of the Czech national revival, such as Josef Dobrovský and Josef Jungmann, operated to introduce the study of Czech language in state schools. Their efforts were accompanied by growth of Czech original literature. Other prominent leader of Czech revival was František Palacký, Moravian Protestant of Hussite tradition and famous Czech Historian.

    Czechs
Czechs are West Slavs, as are Poles and Slovaks. The capital Prague is often called The Heart of Europe. There are about 10 million people in the Czech Republic and about 1.3 million people in Prague. Western part of the Czech Republic is called Bohemia, eastern Moravia.
    History of the Kingdoms
Before the arrival of the Slavs in the 6th century this area was inhabited by Germanic and Celtic tribes. A lot of rulers and kings ruled the people in Bohemia from the 7th to 19th centuries. Let us notice two of them: Emperor Charles IV and Emperor Rudolf II. During the reign of Charles IV (1346-78), as king of Bohemia and Holy Roman emperor, Prague grew into one of the largest cities in Europe. It acquired its fine Gothic face and landmarks including Charles University, Charles Bridge and St. Vitus Cathedral. In the second half of the 16th century the city experienced great prosperity under Emperor Rudolf II and was made the seat of the Habsburg Empire. Rudolf II established great collections of art and renowned artists and scholars were invited to his court.

    Czech Republic History
Czech Republic history dates back to the 5th Century A.D when the Slavic tribes shifted their habitat to the areas of present Moravia, Silesia and Bohemia. All through out the 10th to the 16th century the kingdom of Bohemia was ruled by the Premyslide dynasty. Prague, the present capital of the Republic had always been an integral part of the Czech Republic history and was an Imperial capital.
Reformation was initiated by Jan Hus which came to as the Hussite Movement in the Czech Republic History. Ferdinand I, of Hapsburg lineage captured the throne in the year 1526 which led to a Nationalist upsurge resulting in the Thirty Years' War. However, the upsurge was a failure and Czech remained a part of the Austrian Empire until the disintegration of the Empire.
An important land mark in the Czech Republic history was the year 1918 when the state of Czechoslovakia was created. In the year 1939 the German troops captured Czechoslovakia and it was only in 1945 that the former Government of Czechoslovakia regained its position and after the election of 1946 the Communists gained control of the Czechoslovakian government.
Czech Republic history entered a new phase in the year 1989 when the blood less velvet Revolution led to the termination of the Communist regime. A leading play writer Vclav Havel was then made the President of the country. As the Democratic Governmental system regained its control, there was an emergence of a strong Slovak nationalist movement. The problem of two Republics in one federation continued and finally political leaders of Czech and Slovak decided on creating two separate Nations. Thus the year 1993 went down in the Czech Republic History as the birth day of the new Nation.
