Dance Meditation for Adults
We are integral beings; moving in daily rhythms and habits using our body, mind, emotions powered by spirited - enthusiastic - energy.
Movement is natural; the force that gets us where we want, doing what we want.
Dance meditation gets the body moving aerobically - breathing increases, oxygenating blood; hormones that give us a sense of well-being circulate; joints and muscles are flexed; heart and lungs are toned. And, our outlook on life is lifted; we feel energized by dancing.
The goal of meditation is communion with the Spirited Self, and while in our body-mind we can feel this inner Spirit enlivened while dancing, as we hold positive thoughts and caring feelings for ourselves and all. General Notes 1. Dance meditation is for individual or group practice. 2. Provide enough space for moving, indoors or out. 3. Dress in comfortable clothes for bending and moving; bare feet or soft shoes such as ballet slippers or gymnastic shoes are best.

44. Dances, Archetypes And The I Ching
Commentary on archetypal imagery from the I Ching revealed in a modern dance performance.
http://www.dennismerrittjungiananalyst.com/Dance_and_archetypes.htm
EcoJung.com DLMerritt@cal.berkeley.edu I was watching a dance performance in 1987 by a newly formed group in Madison when my mind switched into an archetypal mode of perception. I saw an archetypal dimension in every movement and in the developing theme of the performance. It was like watching an abstract archetypal story manifest in front of me. I remembered almost every aspect of the dance, and went home and wrote this article. Quite a different perspective on one dance was presented by Paul Gerrard in a review in Isthmus , Madison's weekly alternative newspaper. "Melrose in Archetypal Motion" was never published so I'm including it on my web site as a description of archetypal motifs in dance.
Melrose in Archetypal Motion Dances, Archetypes and the I Ching Dennis L. Merritt, Ph.D. The first full-scale performance by the Melrose Motion Company last Friday night was a bit of a happening for the city of Madison. Those of us fortunate to be there saw the emergence of a professional company at every leveldancers, themes, music, choreography. Our local dance group reflected to us what we turn to artists to seea deep look at ourselves, our society, our archetypal roots.
Claudia Melrose and company flashed a full spectrum of human experience before our eyes. The interwoven play of images, like dream images incarnated by human dancers, left me feeling as I do after waking from a big dream. I would now have to reflect upon the immediate and shared experience of watching the dances, talk about and re-feel it in an attempt to raise to consciousness what I intuitively felt and grasped at a deep level.

Series Summary
Lyrical and modern dance have origins in the very recent history of jazz dance, ballet and emotive or trance dance. Through lyrical modern dance, a dancer is expected to use music and emotion to design their steps and movements, relating to their inner selves just as much as the music around them. Often referred to as concert dance, modern and lyrical dance began as a form of interpreting ancient myths and legends into the world of dance. Closely related to ballet, this form of dance and bodily expression combines the elements of carefully balanced and calculated movements with elements of free dance and personal expression to make for a truly inspiring performance that is good for both the body and mind. In this free video series, our expert dance instructor and performer will explain all the elements of modern and lyrical dance you will need to begin practicing and experimenting. The free online dance lesson contains instruction on stretching and warm-up methods, types of clothing and shoes that work best for modern dance routines, as well as explanations of particular moves and routine combos. Learn how to put all the steps, moves, turns and bows into one fluid and beautiful dance routine.
