Home productions agenda bio ... nl deepblue is a company and production structure for performance, dance, video and installation work, based in Brussels. The name deepblue refers to an immense microcosm as well as to that supercomputer which for the first time won a match from a human in an intellectual game. deepblue aims at balancing human and technological forms of communication. In all productions traces are left of this destroyed opposition between what is organic and what is artificial. Video, sound, light and distribution of space are equal elements in the development of creations, just as dancers, performers and audience are.

Steel Sky Installation by Christoph De Boeck at the STRP Festival, Eindhoven : 18-28 NOVEMBER 2010
This responsive environment confronts the visitor with an acoustic representation of his electrical brain activities : a ceiling of steel segments responds to your state of consciousness in real time. The intimate topography of your cerebral cortex is mirrored as pins hit different locations on a matrix of steel in shifting rhythms and combinations. Since the presentation of version I in STUK in Leuven last year, Christoph De Boeck has finetuned the interaction between the measured brainwaves and the sound produced by the installation. The result is version II, creating a more dynamic set of patterns and rhythms that shows more individual features of the person wearing the headset.

‘Exploring Kinaesthetic Empathy’ exercise
Working with a partner: Partner A lies supine, Partner B sits or kneels beside them, near to their navel centre. Partner A’s main objectives are to breathe, become passive, release any holding of muscular tension in their body and to keep their eyes closed if possible. Partner B sits and observes Partner A and watches the rise and fall of the chest and/or abdomen as Partner A breathes. Once a regular breathing pattern is established by Partner A, Partner B matches it and notes how it is perhaps different from their own natural breathing pattern.
After both partners have experienced a unified breathing pattern for a short while, Partner B moves to sit or kneel beside Partner A’s leg. Partner B lifts Partner A’s leg, bending it at the knee and placing it in their lap. Partner B does not touch Partner A’s leg but rather lets it rest in their lap, supported as if by the floor. Partner A concentrates on releasing the weight of their leg into the support of Partner B.

Vertical Take Off And Landing Aircraft
VTOL Aircraft - The History
VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) aircraft are aircraft that can achieve a vertical lift off without needing to use a runway or airstrip. These aircraft have fixed wings - some aircraft may also be able to take off in other ways whilst others can only use VTOL modes.
The history of VTOL aircraft goes back to the scientist Nikola Tesla who invented the ‘Flivver’ in the 1920s. Research continued within the industry through to the Second World War where the Germans tried and failed to create their own VTOL plane (the Heinkel Lerche). The aim here was to produce a plane that could also take off like a helicopter.
In the 1950s Rolls Royce in the UK created a Thrust Measuring Rig which led to the first VTOL aircraft in the country (the Short SC.1). However this engine combined both vertical lift and horizontal life engines - the first VOTL engine that used purely vertical lift was the Bristol Siddeley Pegasus. This engine ended up being part of the VTOL aircraft the Hawker Siddeley Harrier.
The Harriers are perhaps the best known VTOL aircraft (also known as ‘jump jets’). They use a directional jet thrust whilst other developments in VTOL technology have seen the use of a tilt rotor system. This system gives an aircraft the vertical lift together with the speed and range of a turbo-prop aircraft.
