  • Decorating a Pumpkin Without Carving
Adjust font-size: Published October 29, 2010 by: Laura Mehlenbacher View Profile Follow Add to Favorites ... Without a Trace Your kids wanted a pumpkin for Halloween and so you bought one. You aren't thrilled about carving the pumpkin and dealing with all of the mess. No problem, there are other ways to decorate the pumpkin without getting out the carving utensils. Here are some suggestions for decorating that pumpkin without carving it out.
    Paint the Pumpkins
You can always paint a design on the pumpkin. All you would need to do is trace (or create your own) the design onto the pumpkin. Then you paint the pumpkin. It is recommended that you use acrylic paint for this project because water color paints will not be as good.
    Use Markers for the Pumpkin
Sharpie has made a variety of markers. Fine tip, wide tip, black, and an assortment of colors.

    Floorcloths.
    Durable, decorative and environmentally practical
Floorcloths have been around for a very long time, and for the past several years have been increasing in popularity as home owners are removing carpeting and refurbishing hardwood floors. If you suffer from allergies replacing your carpeting with floorcloths may be helpful. They do not hold dirt, pet fur or dander as the surface is smooth and easy to maintain. My floorcloths are made with water based products that do not "off gas" as carpeting does. A floorcloth has two elements to it, durability and design. Here, in Ottawa, durability is very important as the floorcloth is exposed to extreme temperature and humidity changes throughout the year. A floorcloth at an entranceway must also be able to withstand melting snow, rock salt, sand and grit.
If you are looking for a floorcloth, design is of course important to ensure that the floorcloth fits in with the surrounding decor, but it is necessary to keep in mind that the floorcloth will be subjected to abuse, people will be walking on it after all. A floorcloth that will last will lie perfectly flat on the floor, with no warps in the canvas and edges that stay down, not curved upwards. It will not crack when rolled up, this is a sign of an inferior finish and could mean that the floorcloth will crack when molding to imperfections in your floor or on ceramic tile. The floorcloth must be primed and sealed on the back to ensure that it is waterproof. Taking these things into consideration when making a floorcloth purchase will help to ensure that your floorcloth will last for years.

Ways to Decorate with Natural Light
Candles are fantastic decorating accessories. They can be fragrant, colorful, and they provide natural light unlike any other. Candles are used to create ambience for romance, but they are appropriate in almost any setting. Try the following unique ideas for decorating with candles, and make use of some of the least expensive ways to decorate. The options are as endless as the available colors and scents.
Ideas for Decorating a Firebox with Candles
An unused fireplace does not have to be an empty fireplace adorned with remnants of ashes and soot. Use the empty space to begin decorating for any season, and display an array of pillar candles. Implement a unique metal candle stand, or raise some of them on bricks. Light each candle anytime the ambience of firelight is desired. It is amazing how much luminance several candles emit. Choose lighter colors that will show up against the dark backdrop of the firebox. This is one of the safest most appropriate areas to begin decorating with a unique candle display, but keep in mind they still require attention since open flames are always a concern.

Is anyone pleased that school has started? Should I even ask? ~grin~
When you catch your breath from all the activity that surrounds "getting ready for back to school", you may want to consider re-doing your child's room. So this month we'll explore a much asked question. How do I decorate my kid's room? Hope you find some helpful information! By children, I mean the baby to grade school crowd. Next month we'll tackle the pre-teen to teen arena.
    They can seem like aliens
    sometimes, can't they? ~grin~
    I have 3!
When my first child was born, we spent a huge amount of money decorating her room. It was lovely. What a MISTAKE that was! Before she was nine months old, my husband was transferred and I had to start all over again. And again, then again, as he moved up the corporate ladder. So...let me make some suggestions here. If you even remotely suspect you may be moving, for whatever reason, keep to some basics and save yourself a lot of grief...not to mention money!
Another consideration: that sweet precious baby is going to GROW! At some point, that cute baby-look will become too "cutesy" for your growing toddler. With these considerations in mind, let's look at some practical, but very appealing looks for children.

      FOCUSING LIGHT on... Epigenetic Design
Understanding how our body, brain and emotions
are interconnected with the interior environment.
What is EPIGENETIC DESIGN.... and why is the relationship between genetics and the built environment so important? When it comes to human health, job performance, workplace productivity, sleep, cognition, and even how fast we heal, the answer is a shining bright light at the end of a long, dark, tunnel of windowless environments, overly bright nights, acoustically noisy and overly-chilled spaces, inadequate lighting, and design for the sake of aesthetics alone.
An emerging practice of intent-driven, evidence-based architectural and interior design devoted to a working knowledge of how the body and brain are directly affected by design related environmental cues, the case for universal understanding of EPIGENETIC DESIGN is becoming increasingly clear in light of recent scientific and medical research from
