Denmark History and Culture
History
Present-day Denmark can trace its linguistic and cultural roots back to when the region was settled by the Danes, a tribe that is thought to have migrated south from Sweden around 500 AD. In the late 9th century, warriors led by the Norwegian Viking chieftain Hardegon conquered the Jutland peninsula. The Danish monarchy, which claims to be the world's oldest, dates back to Hardegon's son, Gorm the Old, who established his reign early in the 10th century. Gorm's son, Harald Bluetooth, completed the conquest of the Danes, speeding their conversion to Christianity. Bluetooth's gob-stopping successors, Forkbeard and sons got the wood on England, setting up shop and throne and living the sweet life of Anglo-Dane monarchs. They kept it together for half a century or so, but as Viking power waned, the borders of the Danish kingdom shrank back to Denmark. Culture Denmark is famous for beautifully designed ceramics, silverware, porcelain, and home furnishings. Copenhagen has a permanent exhibition of arts and crafts where artisans from all over the country may display and sell their work.

Denmark : History
The Danes, a homogenous Gothic-Germanic people, have colonised Denmark since past history times. Danish is the principal language. English is a required school subject, and fluency is high. A small German-speaking minority lives in southern Jutland; a mostly Inuit population inhabits Greenland. Education is compulsory from ages seven to 16 and is free through the university level. Although religious freedom is guaranteed, the state-supported Evangelical Lutheran Church accounts for about 85% of those persons claiming religious affiliation. Several other Christian denominations, as well as other major religions, find adherents in Denmark. Islam is now the second-largest religion in Denmark. During the Viking time (9th-11th centuries), Denmark was a great power based on the Jutland Peninsula, the Island of Zealand, and the southern part of what is now Sweden. Viking raids brought Denmark into contact with Christianity, and in the 12th century, crown and church determine increased. By the late 13th century, royal power had waned, and the nobility forced the king to grant a charter, considered Denmark's first constitution. Sweden and Finland left the union in 1520; Norway remained until 1814. Iceland, in a "personal union" under the king of Denmark after 1918, became independent in 1944. The Reformation was introduced in Denmark in 1536. Denmark's provinces in today's southwestern Sweden were lost in 1658, and Norway was transferred from the Danish to the Swedish crown in 1814, following the defeat of Napoleon, with whom Denmark was allied.

Denmark Travel Guide In the history of Denmark from 10,000 to 1500 B.C., the population evolved from a society of hunters and fishers into one of farmers of present-day what Denmark is. By the end of the 8th century Denmark was known as Jutland, its mariners were among the Vikings, or Norsemen, who raided Western Europe and the British Isles from the 9th to 11th century.
In the history of Denmark the Nazis started an assault on Denmark in the year 1940. The King Christian X of the country unwillingly asked his people Danes to accept the occupation, but this resulted in extensive conflicts against the Nazis. During the World war II Denmark was the nation which remained occupied to save all its Jews from extinction, by smuggling them out of the country.
In the year 1944, Iceland confirmed its independence from Denmark, ending the unification that had existed since 1380. In the year 1948, the Faroe Islands, which were under Denmark since 1380, was granted home rule, and in 1953, Greenland officially became a territory of Denmark.
The year 2001 saw the dominant Social-Democrat Party losing to Anders Fogh Rasmussen of the center-right Liberal Party, which formed an alliance with the Conservative Party. Migration to Denmark fell considerably in 2002, after Fogh Rasmussen introduced Europe's most restrictive laws for refuge seekers. Because of Denmark's social welfare benefits, the country had become a much-sought-after haven for refugees.

Denmark History
It all began as early as 12500 BC, when traces of men engaging in hunting and fishing existed. It was only after the Ice Age that farming was considered as an occupation in the Neolithic Age around 3900 BC. Towns developed during the Iron Age period in 750 AD. Then the country got unified around 700 AD with the decline of Frankish empire. Let us first begin with the Viking Age where Vikings began with their expeditions bringing in lots of cash, jewels from the neighboring places. The royal power came to an end with the death of Canute IV in 1086.Soon Christianity was introduced in Denmark following which a number of churches were constructed, communities formed, towns were built and people got baptized. The clergy was introduced who looked after the middle class section and the churches. Soon Denmark underwent a lot of changes both socially and politically due to the Black Death. The Kalmar union was formed in 1397 which combined other territories like Norway, Sweden and Denmark which was ruled by Margrete I, the Danish Queen at that time. But this continued only till 1523. However, Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland continued to be united with Denmark and finally declared its independence in the year 1944. Denmark never made an effort to join or be a part of nations with substantial low economic condition. The current scenario of Denmark is characterized by a good political, social and economic life.

Last updated : Nov 2009 Denmark History The Roman Empire had very little contact with people as far north as Denmark. Consequently, the written record from that time is patchy and not very reliable. The northward movement of the Franks in the eighth and ninth centuries forced the local rulers to resist external aggression and led to the rise of Denmark as a significant power in the region. A successful series of raids on England during the 11th century led to the creation of an Anglo-Danish kingdom. Among its rulers was Canute (Knud), later famous for his confrontation with the sea.

The latter part of the 18th century saw many localised wars in Europe, during which Denmark exploited its position of neutrality by trading with all sides. It's economy therefore flourished at this time, e.g. through trade during the Napoleonic wars with both France and the UK. It joined the League of Armed Neutrality with Russia, Sweden and Prussia which the British took objection to and viewed as a hostile act such that it attacked the Danish capital Copenhagen in 1801 and again in 1807. It was these attacks which marked the end of the propserous Florissant Age and culminated in the Dano-British Gunboat War.
Following the end of the Napoleonic wars, the Congress of Vienna determined in 1815 that the Dano-Norwegian union should be disolutioned and Norway be given to Sweden; a union which lasted until 1905. Denmark however retained control of the colonies it had; Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. In addition to these nordic colonies, Denmark also still controlled Danish India from 1620 to 1869, the Danish Gold Coast (Ghana) from 1658 to 1850, and the Danish West Indies (also known as U.S. Virgin Islands) from 1671 to 1917.
In 1864, the Prussians under Bismarck and the Austrians declared war on Denmark as an initial step to precipitate the unification of Germany, after which Denmark was forced to concede the region of Schleswig and Holstein to Prussia. This defeat is said to have left significant scars on Denmark's national sense of identity and thereafter led to its return to a policy neutrality, which continued during the first world war.

    Author's Note
I have attempted to research Danish history before my joining of the game, however the details are altogether sketchy. What is known is that President Duke Nukem was banned permanently either during or before the month of February (before the 100th Day of the New World). During this time the country was racked with food shortages and economic problems. Wages were about 0.50 DKK on average.
The Early Political Scene and the Rise of President Onaninho
The largest party in Denmark was the Weberian Bureaucy Party . It's slogan was simple and would eventually become a salute later on, "Through Bureaucracy Denmark will Prevail." Onaninho presumably gained power through the party elections on the 10th of February. The other active parties were the Danish National Party and DemocratDK . The elections of the 1st of March allowed the short-lived Onaninho administration to gain power. The Onaninho administration was a clear marker for future trends of Danish development. Onaninho was the first president to appoint political advisers, the first person hired was
