Related articles Admit it. You're addicted to speed. Move up to a hot new system, and you marvel at how fast in is. But after a while, it seems, well ... slow. Sound familiar? Then you probably already know that the most cost-effective way to get a noticeable increase in performance is often with a faster disk drive, not a faster computer. But what if you already have a fast hard disk, in the 12 to 15 millisecond range, and want faster performance still? The answer: Speed up the drive you've got. Quite simply, you can give any drive a performance boost with the addition of cachingeither in a caching disk controller, or caching software. For this article, we'll concentrate on disk controllers. (For a discussion of caching software, see "The Software Solution" sidebar on page xxx.) The idea behind caching is straightforward: You want to keep as much information as possible in silicon, rather than leave it on disk. If you've ever used a RAM dis, which sets aside a chunk of RAM and treats it like a disk, you already know that reading from and writing to RAM is orders of magnitude faster than reading from and writing to a hard disk. But if you get a power outageor if your system hangs and you have to rebooteverything in RAM disappears. That makes RAM disks a dangerous place to store data files.

ASUS includes one of the most impressive bundles in recent history with their P5W-DH Deluxe motherboard. The number of SATA cables is adequate with six ports cable available but only four cables are included with this motherboard, allowing for SATA RAID arrays to be formed with them. The IDE and FDD cables allow the user to take advantage of DVD drives and floppy disk drives.

The area where the bundle really shines is in the included accessories. The USB 2.0 module brings the total available out of the box to 6. There is also a Firewire module bringing the total on the board for those to two. MP3-In is a device to play MP3s on your onboard audio. Pretty cool idea, as you can play the MP3s even when the system is not on.

A defining characteristic of ASUS motherboards has always been the software bundles that are included with the motherboards. InterVideo makes the WinDVD DVD playback software. ASUS includes the MediaLauncher software pack which has WinRIP, WinDVD Creator and more. The second component of ASUS's bundle is the inclusion of Norton's Internet Security consisting of Norton's Anti-Virus and Personal Firewall.

Ubuntu is, as I recall install from USB, in fact, not on XP also.

SMS/SCCM vs Promisec Spectator - Part 2 of 2 (The rebuttal)
If you read my previous post
THE REBUTTAL
My comments in RED Intelligent Search and Reporting capabilities: SMS returns large amounts of data per endpoint, which can be up to 1,000 lines per endpoint or more. Furthermore, filtering through this data intelligently requires exporting it to an SQL database. Once installed, a number of filters need to be built and maintained in order to retrieve the relevant information needed. These tasks are time consuming and create work rather than alleviating some of the administrator’s workload.
While it's true that several "lines" exist in SCCM per computer (I'm assuming they mean lines of data), it amounts to less than 1 MB per computer, and it's already in SQL and requires no exporting like they suggest. Furthermore, instead of sending a full manifest back to our servers every time inventory runs like they imply, our CM client only sends the deltas. If there's no change in inventory from the last time it was run, there's no data to send back.
I'm not sure what "filters" they think need to be built and maintained to retrieve relevant information…we have canned reports and we have custom reports and we can also provide data feeds/exports to groups that require data right from SMS. I'm not aware of any filter building/maintenance tasks that we need to perform.
