Swimming with Dolphins - In a Dolphin's World, On a Dolphin's Terms - on Your Bucket List?
" Swim with dolphins in the wild. Skip the artificial hotel experiences and go where the dolphins are able to roam free. " Beyond the Guide Books on Oahu
We've been getting wet and wild with our resident pod of Hawaiian spinner dolphins for over 20 years. With our experience, and minimal passengers per charter, you can be assured that your dolphin encounter will be the best possible. Ready to Get Wet? Please note that due to increasing visitation to the dolphin's habitat we will not force encounters on the animals, nor on you. We will critically, and ethically judge if you and the dolphins will have a better encounter if viewing them from onboard - or if we should look for a different pod. Best encounters and best weather are usually during morning hours. Our goal is to facilitate a "magical" experience, not just get you in the water for a dolphin "drive-by".

Joseph Robbie, a Minneapolis lawyer, and entertainer Danny Thomas paid $7.5 million for the expansion franchise in 1965. The American Football League added the Dolphins in 1966. The bottlenose dolphin is perhaps one of the most commonly seen cetaceans in the world. Bottlenose dolphins are light to slate gray on the upper part (dorsal surface) of their bodies, fading to lighter gray on the sides and pale gray or pink on the belly. The dorsal fin is tall and curves toward the rear of the animal. The flukes (tail fins) are curved with a deep notch in the middle, and the pectoral (side) fins are of medium length and pointed. This dolphin has a robust body with a short stubby rostrum (beak), which earned it the name “bottlenose.” There are 86 to 100 sharp, cone-shaped teeth in its mouth, which allow the animal to grasp slippery prey. Aquarist's Note
As trainers, we form close associations with these animals. After all, we often spend more time with them than we do with our own families! The social structure of the dolphins at the Aquarium is modeled after life in the wild.

Whale Watching West Cork with Colin Barnes
WHALE WATCH WITH COLIN BARNES is a wonderful opportunity to encounter marine wildlife here in West Cork. These coastal waters are a rich, natural habitat for whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals and sea birds, along with a prolific fish life. Colin was the first to establish whale watching in West Cork. His trips run throughout the year, focussing on the seasons when cetaceans are most abundant. With a passion for wildlife since he was five years old, Colin has made these waters a life time study for the last thirty five years, living by and working on the sea. His experiences have given him a sound understanding of local marine ecology. He has a proven track record second to none in finding cetaceans and providing superb close encounters for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers and researchers alike.

Imagine that you are scuba diving in the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean. As you’re busy exploring the ocean floor, you hear high pitched noises. You follow the noises… they become louder and louder. Your heart races as you finally turn the corner of a sea cave. You see… bottlenose dolphins!!! As you observe these playful creatures, you become more interested in them. When you decide to do some research about them, this is the information that you find. Mammals One major fact that you find is that dolphins are mammals like you and me. This means that they breath air, and they grow hair. They are also born alive, and they nurse from their mothers when they are young. Length One other fact that you find interesting is how long these creatures are. The bottlenose dolphin, specifically, is 3 m (10 ft.) This dolphin can weigh up to 400 pounds. Now that’s a big animal! Speed The dolphins’ body shape plays a big roll in the speed of the animal. The shape is narrow like a bullet or a torpedo. This feature in the dolphin helps it swim faster through the water. The dolphin’s natural speed for swimming is 18-22 mph ( 29-35 kph). Hunting The bottlenose dolphin’s usual snack is shrimp, krill, sea plants, and other small fish. Hunting for this creature is a pretty simple task. Dolphins usually don’t have to dive very far to catch their prey.

Week 10: Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins
by George Richmond on November 12, 2010 W
    News
On Wednesday, head coach Tony Sparano named Chad Pennington the starting quarterback and sent ineffective Chad Henne Peyton Manning But what was it specifically about Henne that spurred the team to make this move? He is a young quarterback, and bumps are to be expected.  While he has gotten better in many areas (improved pocket presence was plainly evident at Baltimore), he has left plays on the field, no question.  And despite his strong arm, he has not shown a propensity to take chances or challenge the defense. Ravens All-Pro safety  Ed Reed Everything else aside, you cannot be the trigger man for an offense in the NFL and never pull the trigger. Among those strengths are supreme accuracy, vision and veteran generalship.  Not simply a leader, a general.  Pennington understands NFL offense to the point that it would be a surprise if he does not transition into coaching at some level after his playing days are over.  And it was former nose tackle Jason Ferguson who recounted how Pennington became the de facto team leader and digested the entire playbook just days after being acquired midway through training camp.

By: J.P. Correia July 26, 2008 Training Camp Starts Today Well, it's finally here. Dolphins training camp starts today in Davie, and you can catch the play by play on the blog, hopefully that is. There are so many questions surrounding this team heading into camp. Infact, let's quickly run through some of them... 1) QB Battle: Can Beck win the starting job? Right now, Beck is penciled in as the Dolphinjs starting quarterback, but that means almost nothing before camp. McCown was brought in as an insurance policy, sort of speak, for a season untill Beck is fully ready to take the reigns, or if the feel necassary, to let Henne grow and mature before taking over in '09. Beck was drafted by the last regime which has some to believe that he is not the future of this team in Parcell's and co. minds. If this is true, it is that much more prevelant that Beck wins the starting job this year, and shows us that it was the right choice passing on Quinn.
