var site="menwebcount" Battered Men - The Hidden Side of Domestic Violence Battered Men in Washington Domestic Violence Against Men 25,473 Washington Men a Year
According to National Violence Against Women Survey Estimates Every year, 1,510,455 women and 834,732 men are victims of physical violence by an intimate. This is according to a Nov. 1998 Department of Justice report on the National Violence Against Women Survey. What does that mean? Every 37.8 seconds, somewhere in America a man is battered. Every 20.9 seconds, somewhere in America a woman is battered. Every 20.6 minutes another man in Washington is battered. In Washington, that's 42,824 women and 25,473 men . That includes 2,754 men on whom a knife was used, 5,508 men threatened with a knife and 11,016 men hit with an object. There may be a trend toward less violence against women, more violence against men, or both. While 76.5% of the people reporting physical violence by an intimate in their lifetime were women, only 62.5% of the people reporting physical violence by an intimate in the last year were women, and 37.5% were men.

June is Domestic Violence Against Men Awareness Month. Shattered Men and Battered Husband Support declared June as Domestic Violence Against Men Awareness Month.

Shat terd Men The hidden half of domestic violence How to have eternal life June is Domestic Violence Against Men Awareness Month Shattered Men and Battered Husband Support declared June as Domestic Violence Against Men Awareness Month Although most are aware that October has traditionally been recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, it is evident that the focus is always on women as victims and men as the abuser. Shattered Men and Battered Husbands felt we needed to remove battered men from the pack in order to help bring awareness to the hidden half of the domestic abuse victims. Abuse is not only physical. verbal or emotional that is done one one to each other. Accusing someone of a crime you know they did not do is also abuse. Calling the police to report you have been abused when you have not is abuse. Keeping a parent from seeing their children is abuse not only to that parent, it is also abuse to the children. As most people know, there are laws prohibiting abuse of a spouse, or a child...but did you know that currently, battered MEN take a backseat? How can a tiny woman of her stature and her stance abuse you, a six foot, whatever, MAN? That question is one that curls my toes, and springs me back to life, even on the most boring and mundane of days...because that little woman is USUALLY the very one that is feared...accepted, protected, and regretfully allowed to abuse the man that was so willing to protect her in the beginning of a relationship, creating a bond that will be hard to sever no matter what she does to him in her anger.

    Domestic Violence Against Men
Friday August 21, 2009 zSB(3,3) When we write articles about abusive behavior and domestic violence , we try to make sure we don't slant the article towards men always being the abuser. We do this because we've read reports showing that often times, it is the wife who threw the first punch. Glenn Sacks and Ned Holstein's article, "No One Believed Me" , is the latest article we've seen on this issue. Sacks and Holstein write : "... more than 200 studies have found that women initiate at least as much domestic violence (DV) against their male partners as males initiate against their female partners. The most recent large-scale study of DV was conducted by Center for Disease Control and Prevention researchers and published in the American Journal of Public Health. The study, which surveyed 11,000 men and women, found that according to both men's and women's accounts, 50 percent of the violence in their relationships was reciprocal (involving both parties). In those cases, the women were more likely to have been the first to strike. Moreover, when the violence was one-sided, both women and men said that women were the perpetrators about 70 percent of the time." There is not a whole lot of support for men who find themselves victims of domestic violence. Often when these men do seek help, they "face hostility or indifference from domestic violence hotlines, service providers, and law enforcement."

    Warning Signs
    You're Dating a Loser
"The Loser" has very shallow emotions and connections with others. One of the things that might attract you to "The Loser" is how quickly he or she says "I Love You" or wants to marry or commit to you. Typically, in less than a few weeks of dating you'll hear that you're the love of their life, they want to be with you forever, and they want to marry you. You'll receive gifts, a variety of promises, and be showered with their attention and nice gestures. This is the "honeymoon phase" - where they catch you and convince you that they are the best thing that ever happened to you... ( full text
    Love and Stockholm Syndrome:
The Mystery of Loving an Abuser
For the family and friends of individuals involved in a relationship with a Loser... In the final analysis, emotionally bonding with an abuser is actually a strategy for survival for victims of abuse and intimidation. The "Stockholm Syndrome" reaction in hostage and/or abuse situations is so well recognized at this time that police hostage negotiators no longer view it as unusual. In fact, it is often encouraged in crime situations as it improves the chances for survival of the hostages. On the down side, it also assures that the hostages experiencing "Stockholm Syndrome" will not be very cooperative during rescue or criminal prosecution. Local law enforcement personnel have long recognized this syndrome with battered women who fail to press charges, bail their battering husband/boyfriend out of jail, and even physically attack police officers when they arrive to rescue them from a violent assault. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AGAINST MEN
    Numb by Linkin Park

Men experience domestic violence too, from female partners or from other men in same-sex relationships .If your partner has beaten you, threatened you, throws things, emotionally manipulates or puts you down, or coerces or forces you into sexual activity, you are being abused. There is help available for you. Below is an article plus some resources that I hope you will find helpful. WHY DO WE KNOW SO LITTLE ABOUT DOMESTIC ABUSE AND VIOLENCE AGAINST MEN There are many reasons why we don't know more about domestic abuse and violence against men. First of all, the incidence of domestic violence reported men appears to be so low that it is hard to get reliable estimates. In addition, it has taken years of advocacy and support to encourage women to report domestic violence. Virtually nothing has been done to encourage men to report abuse. The idea that men could be victims of domestic abuse and violence is so unthinkable that many men will not even attempt to report the situation. The dynamic of domestic abuse and violence is also different between men and women. The reasons, purposes and motivations are often very different between sexes. Although the counseling and psychological community have responded to domestic abuse and violence against women, there has been very little investment in resources to address and understand the issues of domestic abuse and violence against men. In most cases, the actual physical damage inflicted by men is so much greater than the actual physical harm inflected by women. The impact of domestic violence is less apparent and less likely to come to the attention of others when men are abused. For example, it is assumed than a man with a bruise or black eye was in a fight with another man or was injured on the job or playing contact sports. Even when men do report domestic abuse and violence, most people are so astonished men usually end up feeling like nobody believes them.

Text Version Welcome to the Millennium: Ending Domestic Violence web site. In August 1999, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and administrators from around the country assembled at the The Next Millennium Conference: Ending Domestic Violence to reflect on the historical milestones of the domestic violence movement: celebration of advances made in combating, and re-commitment to eliminating domestic violence. Despite the accomplishments, the sobering fact is that domestic violence continues, destroying individuals and families, irrespective of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, or religion. As a follow-up to the 1999 conference, we are discussing several smaller events designed to continue the spirit and momentum the August conference generated. In addition, we are pleased to present this web site as an outreach and informational resource. Your comments are welcome. As you enter the Millennium , you will find a calendar of events, web links to related organizations, historical information and much more.
